Where is the alarm siren located?
My E220 Diesel is model year 1998 so I have the electronic keys. I have the anti-theft and towing-off protection system. Sometimes the beeping sounds when unlocking or locking the car, but most of the time it doesn't. I have checked all fuses and the alarm system works cuz all the lights do signal. It might be a corroded electrical connection on the siren itself?! But I have no clue as where to find it. Anyone?!

I could access it by removing the panel below the right headlight (pre-facelift front thank god!) BUT; it's the second-tone horn that's located there! One tone is behind the grill and the second tone is inside the bumper below the right headlight. Still no clue as to where the alarm siren can be...

Right now the alarm horn is working again. The chirp/beep sounds come from around the right front fender close to the front door area. I opened up the electronics box containing the ECU, ASR/ABS computer etc. but nothing there. Could the alarm horn be hidden inside the front fender?! I have what european insurance companies call a 'class 3' alarm so the alarm horn has it's own battery etc. to prevent tampering. If you try to disconnect it with the system armed it goes off on it's own, I've heard stories about people having to bury or smash it to pieces, lol! I found another post on these forums where a C-class driver experienced the same problems. He took the alarm horn apart and replaced the battery pack and all was good again. Apparantly after 10 years the battery pack gets so bad it's sort of shorting out the signal coming from the alarm control unit...

i've not been curious enough to isolate the siren but it appears that you're
darn close. as depicted by this parts diagram (from the Russian site) #62
is the puppy which makes the noise on W210. it may be hidden behind the
wheel liner or something.

Here's a pictorial! The shop I always goto told me how to get to the alarm horn. It's done by removing the inner lining of the right front wheel well, then you'll find the horn on a bracket mounted inside the fender. I didn't want to remove the wheel so I put the car unto a jack to get more clearance. After taking apart the alarm horn I found that the almost 10 y/o batterypack was leaking and the acid had corroded part of the PCB. I tried resoldering all contacts but still no-go so I ordered a new alarm horn. Hope this helps anyone else with a factory alarm anyways...

Great pics , I finally find where is the alarm siren. I bought one at the dealer and want to install it, now I only need to know which wires I have to connect, from the wiring diagram I know two of them, 1. the black, yellow and red, and 2. the brown, but the siren has three wire connector, can you tell which one I am missing and the position of wires in the connector.

Fantastic pictures, thanks for posting this thread....why? Because later on I'm going to want to install a remote starter, so I will need to remove the alarm!

Hmmm, when I use my fancy-shmancy key to lock/unlock/alarm the car, I don't hear *any* sound -- no chirping, nothing.
Is that normal? If not, should this be its own thread?

Now I'm confused. Is my car supposed to chirp or make any noise when being unlocked or locked? When I unlock it all my turn signals flash once. When I lock it they all flash three times. No noise at all.

no, BB. lancelot is in the Netherlands. there actually is a setting that the
SDS multiplexor can activate commonly called the Netherlands setting.
so if you use SEARCH function you can read up on the plus/minus of
activating this setting.

Like Big Boss, I am wondering if there is supposed to be a "chirp" or other sound when uses the remote to lock/unlock the car. I hear none.
Anyone know the answer?

Here's the thread:

It's yet to be demonstrated that it can actually be done by the dealer.
Cheers
