I had my E430 out on the interstate today and hit the limiter at 130 mph. It feels very strong up to that point and i am sure it can do more. How do you get around the limiter and how much?? I have the 17" sport rims with ZR rated tires so i am not tire speed limited.

My manual says 130mph
page 20 of my 98 e430 manual talks about the factory equiped tires being H rated up to 130 mph and quote:
"Models E320 and E430:
An electronic speed limiter prevents your vehicle from exceeding the speed rating".

I have ZR rated (180+mph) so it can handle it now. But how do i get around the pesky limiter? and do any other limiters lurk behind the other?

there is more than 1 limiter on the vehicle.... you have the speed limiter, rev limiter, and others.... you can call renntech and they can probably list you a few....
i've heard somewhere that if you change out the speedo/console.... to maybe an E55, one of the limiters might be moved up to that of the E55. not sure though.

BTW, Z-rated tires are only "149+ MPH". Y-rated tires are true 180+ MPH tires.

As far as having speed governors removed...I have a governor on my 2000 VW Passat, the only way to get around it was to have the ECU chip replaced. Since then, I haven't taken a v-max run (NYC streets are not conducive to high-speed driving :p ), but I'm reasonably sure that I could take it past 130 mph now.

There is something wrong with MB, isn't it?

My 2001 E 430 4-Matic also came with ZR-rated tires. The manuals, however, states "Your vehicle is factory equipped with "H"-rated tires, which have a speed rating of 130 mph. An electronic speed limiter for models E 320 and E 430 prevents your vehicle from exceeding the speed rating."
Unlike Joe Walsh, I don't have a limo, so I haven't tested the speed limiter.
"My Maserati does 185, I lost my license, now I don't drive."

Perhaps the manual is just written for the lowest common denominator, i.e. the capability of the E320. The 430 Sport gets Z-rated tires, though I don't know about the non-sport model.
