codes usually trigger a fuel trim code, does it show what cylinder or just the p0300? could be crank sensor is going. or clean the egr and run a can of seafoam injector cleaner through the gas tank.Any driving issues or is it just the cel on?

When I acquired the vehicle it had a starting issue where a local Ford stealer replaced the fuel pump and the fuel rail sensor in addition to the fuel filter. Overall it runs well but the RPM's vary more than average, and the first start in the morning it fires weakly then comes to and the revs gradually go up to 2k, then drop to 1.5k then back to 2k if it's cold until they level off around 1k.... drivability is fine, so I figure I keep my eye on it with the code reader to see what codes may keep coming back. It's the P0300 that I've seen so far.

I know that a p0300 code on my cobra may be indicative of a loose crank pulley (the crank pulley holds the timing trigger wheel in place). Im not sure how your taurus gets its ignition timing signals, but this may be something to check.

Keep an eye on it for more codes and check
the pending codes if any.Egr symptoms and also a weak Pre cat sensor not getting up to temp fast enough and messing with the rich/lean ratio.Would not hurt to check that crank pulley either, imagine if that came off

should
it is government mandated to have obd2 on all cars since 96.Just look around under the dash for the little door behind which the obd2 port for the plug in is located.
there is even a web site if you google search that shows where obd ports are located on every model.
or ask on the 500 forum.
hope this helps,do you show a cel light?

find on your gps
4685 AIRPORT BLVD. 251-343-9884 harbor freight
centec scanner part # 94169-3VGA
OBD II CODE READER WITH CAN
Get it,worth it's weight in gold, you just keep it in your tool kit you take for trips(you do have one don't you?) and then when you run into the need to run codes, check if you are ready for a smog test, help out a neighbor with any car built 96 and later that has a cel on,you are the man, man!
Let me know when you have it and I will give you the quick primer on use.

Dude, I told you so, long a go
14 years later, and I still use this very same code reader. It's the most useful automotive purchase I've ever made. Thanks, @ohlord !

PS: Still using the code reader, lol, even though I have fancier ones. This one stays in the car for emergencies and goes on every road trip for the same reason.
