Help w/ codes MAF, O2

Hello,

I have an '01 E430 AWD that the cel was on. I took it to the auto parts and ran codes. They were;

P0100
P0300
P0305
P0306
P0307
P0308

The O2 sensors were;

STFT Bank 1 25%
LTFT Bank 1 0%
STFT Bank 2 5.4%
LTFT bank 2 0%

The car is cutting out after start until it is warmed up in the morning, then it seems to run fine.

I obviously have a problem with one engine bank, can someone tell me if it is the 02 sensors by the numbers above? If so which ones/ side of the car?

I bought the CRC MAF cleaner and will do that and I am also giving it a tune up with plugs, filters, transmission fluid, oil etc.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Greg

Maf codes are usually p0170 and p0173

po100 is circuit maf,so make sure it is firmly plugged in and no broken wires.the whole right bank as you face it is misfiring.so you need to check ,vac hoses that side,injector operation,you can listen to the humming and clicking with a mechanics stethoscope ,get a code reader from harbor freight tools for 39 bucks,its the one that is normally 79,read the codes write all of them down,and erase them.Now go for a ride and write down all the codes you get when the cel comes on.
Dont do plugs yet or anything else,solve one issue at a time,and it would be rare to have all the plugs on one bank to go bad,with 100k plugs they rarely ever go bad at all even when not changed well after.
so you need to narrow down the issue one at a time.short term fuel trim and long term fuel trim on the bank 2 appear to be way off from bank 1,get the codes and report back.o2 sensors are a diy if the codes come up for it,and sometimes they dont throw a code ,so that is why you need to rule out the other things first and then r/r the o2's which are 100k maint items anyway....

new codes

I bought the harbor freights OBD2 reader and wrote down the codes;

p0100
p0170
p0173

I then reset the codes and cleaned the MAF and just got the p0100 on the next scan. I can still feel a misfire under hard acceleration so I think I need to drive the car longer to get them to show up again.

I also bought the mechanics headset and will see if I can listen for injector and vac problems on the right bank today.

Thanks,
Greg

clean

the injectors,1 can of seafoam added to the tank or techron injector cleaner,and if the Maf code came back did you erase the codes after cleaning the maf.if they did,clear them again,sometimes it takes time for the ecu to adapt to the new values,if the code comes on again for maf p0170 p0173 then you need to get the insert from www.germanstar.net or if you don't want to take the extra 5 minutes it takes to r/r the insert you can install the whole unit,just don't get it off ebay,a lot of those they buy them for about $6 in lots of thousands.Bogus...........part.

MAF insert

Thanks for the help! I cleaned the MAF but that didn't work, so I ordered an insert. That seems to be working; I get 'no codes" now.

I changed my battery because the old one went dead and not only did I erase the codes on my radio, which I don't have, but my window switches don't work for auto- up or down. Any ideas there?

Thanks again.

Oops

I always try to warn peeps to have that radio code handy,just look in the radio manual if you have it,should be on a card.If not go to the dealer with poo,proof of ownership,and they will check the vin and give you the code.The windows,sunroof and sometimes the steering wheel angle sensor resets are posted in a thread just search window sync,or it is in the owners manual,very easy to do.
you got the code reader ,correct?Read the codes again and see if any are stored as pending and erase them,then look for my post on generic drive cycle and perform that to reset any i/m readiness issues,no need to do it unless you have an emmisions test soon.If you dont have a test for awhile,the car will set them ready state after a bunch of completed drive cycles.
Glad it helped and you saved a lot of money diy'r

what year is your 430 4m and how many miles?

Greg:

It's always useful to take a look at the manual. I have ripped a page off my pdf manual for you.

Cheers

Thanks!

You guys have been a world of help!

I need to go to the dealer for codes as my original owners packet disappeared. I did not lock it at a park and ride one day. At least that is all that was in there to steal.

My car is an '01 with 80k on it. It has been a great car so far. 26mpg on trips and plenty of power. I think that body style will be a classic!

Thanks again,

Greg

I'm experiencing some problems similar to yours too. I will try and get the codes up asap. Thank ohlord for helping out! I'm coming down to Seattle this coming weekend, so hopefully I can stop by your place if your free.

don't go to the dealer,where do you live ,we can direct you to a place or how to read the codes and post them here and we can tell you what the possible solutions they are pointing towards.The dealer will rope you in and spit you out if you get near them
