how do i get this shift knob off?
1998 e320

i cant get the collar at the bottom to turn...i dont want to brake it...and who makes a cool one for a swap?

try a set of vice grips with some cloth between the tool and the collar. It should turn by hand though. Be very gentle.

I got a very nice burlwood/leather/chrome shift knob from for-my-mercedes.com (remove the dashes). Cost about $100

i'm a newbie myself, when i went to change my shift knob could not get the collar off, after a while i realized the collar was missing, firmly pulled straight up and off it came
