Spend a
few bucks more and get the 65watt H7 rally bulbs for both high and low beam from
www.danielsternlighting.com
H9 burner on a H7 base much brighter ,no glare, safe for the harness and last much longer.

As is almost always the case, there is simply NOTHING of use to a knowledgeable Mercedes owner in the American car aftermarket as exemplified by Pep Boys.
The Sylvania Silverstars are notorious for being short lived.
However, if one sources European Silverstars, i.e. Osram Silverstars, one will obtain a Mercedes-quality part. Sorry, but no blue tint, however.
See http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/product...of_winter.html
The bulbs Ohlord recommends are even better, and the Daniel Stern website should be required prereading for anyone posting a lighting question.

i am using the Sylv SS variant in my high beam socket. works well enough
for me. but then again, it is overshadowed by the low beam's HID. the visual
color isn't that important to me, ie having to be blue or faux HID, etc.

I can attest to the short lived Sylvania Silverstar halogen bulbs. Tried a pair late last year and both failed within 3 months. Money down the drain. Luckily I kept the OEM set (7 years old) in the trunk for backup replacements.

Daniel Stern is the place to learn about lighting. The Silverstar is the only decent colored bulb out there. If you cannot stomach 35-3800K yellowish/factory bulbs then you will love silverstars. The other blue coated bulbs out there have no light out put at all. As far as quality I have not had one 9005 or 9006 silverstar die in 3 years on the wifey's suburban. also ran a set of H7's for the high beam in my S500. There is also an Osram silverstar out there that is better then the sylvania for light output, not as white though.

The
reason the silverstar lasted in the wifes car is the underpowered lighting circuit,if you installed a relay and had full voltage going to the lights they would be much brighter on the suburban but the silverstars would last about as long as they usually do,not that long

I like the silver stars, however they don't last that long, mine did last about six months or seven....but I think I will try daniel stern.....is the light brighter/whiter then silver stars ohlord? The silver star has a very slight hint of blueish...but not bad.

Brighter
not whiter, pleasant on the eyes and a big improvement.
He also has those trick directional bulbs for the back that look white until you turn on the directionals and then it flashes the correct color.
ohlord
remember the low beams and the high beams are all H7's
