ok y'all, I have finally given in. I ordered a new CL550 this week for an October delivery. I'm going to sell my 2001 E430 outright and don't want to rip someone off, but don't want to give it away either. It's black and Java with only 34,400 miles and is perfect shape and will still have 6 months of extended factory warranty come October. Do you think I can ask $22,000 and get it?

 

come back down to earth.Low mile 01 E55's are going for thousands below that.
You might get 14 if the right buyer comes along with that much cash.Dealer might give you 11 on a good day.

Helmut430 - Your car is worth more than 11K so disregard the earlier comment (no offense meant Ohlord). My recommendation would be to get the trade in and private sale value from edmunds.com. I have traded a couple of cars and have been able to get edmunds quoted value without any problem

 

edmunds.com and maybe in this cash strapped market another grand for the low miles.Never price a car kbb that is for dealers to chump you off and make you feel good if you whittle them down from kbb or nada.Prove me wrong

Good news is it will be easy to sell with the low mileage. Bad news is it the resale value is quite low. If they'll give you anywhere near 11k on the trade, take it. You also save the sales tax on that amount on your new car

 

about 15k due to good mileage i'd say but obviously the real demand will decide

Congratulations on the CL 550.
Re: 430, I am sure that examples exist that would command $22K. I believe that to realize that price the subject must be in the 99% to 100% concourse state, with delivery mileage only, less than 100. This would be the top 1% of all W210s and already in someones collection.

Here are my thoughts on the value of my 1999 E 430 Sport
1. It is a driver with low mileage 28K. 95% of that is highway mileage.
2. The car is kept in a temp/humidity controlled garage.
3. Travel, fuel, exercises and maintenance logs have been kept from new.
4. Mechanically the car is 100%, concourse the car is solid 98 point.
5. Only flaw, some pitting in front bumper and fog lamps.
It would be considered a cream puff to most.
I would not sell for less than $16K KBB quotes $20100.00

Just bought a 1999 E430 with 127,000 and new snow tires on seperate alloy's for $11,800. 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. With a warranty.

If I didn't have one I'd pay $20,000 for your car.

Depends on how you look at it. New snows on alloy wheels, spark plugs, both ball joints and front stabilizer links, Anti freeze, oil change,motor mounts, r+r the shifter, plus a 1500 mile warranty. The car is, as I said a 9 out of 10. Not as nice as my National Show winning 1991 560 SEC, but it's a winter car.

BTW the snows are for sale, plus I have a set of E430 that need to be refinished for sale.

Wow, I may just be in the market for such a car in a few months. Your's sounds like a very nice ride. I'd like to get some info on your car and am curious if there are any major differences between an '01 and '02 model e430?

 

There is a list of different option packages but the cars for 01 and 02 are identical. Major cosmetic changes in 2000 that lasted until the end of the run in 2002. There was a miner difference between 2000 and 2001, I believe it had to do with rear air bags being standard in 01. If you are looking for a E430, be patient in your search, as there are fewer of them to be had. And try to find one that has as many options as you can. The original sticker for my car is 73K with all of the options personally I would have got the E55 at that price are dropped another 6K for the S430.

 

I purchased my E430 Sport for $22K about 3.5 - 4 years ago from my Godfather. He was going to trade it in on an SL500 AMG and the dealer would only give him $21K. The sticker price when he purchased was $45K and only had one previous owner. I offered him $22K and he took it and went and got his convertible amg monster and put something called a RenKen or RenTech thing on it.

Anyways I got it with 58K miles on it, new tires, brakes, battery, wash and wax. (He's a nice guy.) Also windows are tinted with silver tint.

I would not let mine go for less than $18K around my town. Could probably get $20K for it... only has 72K miles on it and is in perfect shape.

My 2 cents.

In this town they do. Even the older 80's models still sell for $7500 or so. E320's go for around $14-$16k.

It is a niche market... lots of richies around... LOTS and they al rive a benz or two... alot of ferrari's around here as well.

 

KBB say $16,650 excellent, $15,610 good and $14,300 fair - for my area. Then add the richie factor and boom $18-$20k.

 

$17,550 NADA for my area....

 

Wealthy people aren't stupid. First off, wealthy people buy NEW cars. I live in a very wealthy area as well. NO ONE has w210s. They all have 2007/2008 BMW, Bentleys, Mercedes, etc. Stop kidding yourself...And who buys for ABOVE kbb LOL.

Just face it, our w210s are not worth much now a days. After 5 years, cars have depreciated most of their value. I mean, i bought my 2002 BMW for 12,000 with 80,000 miles on it. It isn't just mercs.

 

I have never been able to sell or trade in a car for what KBB, NADA or Edmunds calculated its worth to be.... nor have I ever bought a car at these suggested prices. These numbers are really guidelines from which buyers work down.

 

Yes, guidelines, but regardless, no one sells above kbb. And the people that do, spend months to years doing it. I had a friend trying to sell his audi for 18,000. Which was the exact same as kbb...it was BABIED, CPO, no scratches or dents, 20,000 miles on it. No one would buy, people often called, but would want it for 17,500, and he constantly turned their offers down. It wasn't until 6 months passed that he finally let it go for 17,200. Point i'm trying to make here is even the most pristine conditioned cars don't go for above kbb.

 

As others have posted, $22k is way too high. Low mileage doesn't seem to make a whole lot of difference, since these vehicles have depreciated so much over the six and seven years. I have a 2001 E320 that has 4,500 miles on it; it MIGHT sell for $600-$800 more than a typcial E320 to the right person. Not much when you compare it to a vehicle that might have 60k-85k more miles on it, and obviously far more wear and tear than mine.
