Transmission Fluid Leak
I was planning on having my transmission fluid serviced at my local dealer but decided to bring my 2001 E320 to my regular mechanic today for State inspection and transmission service. I noticed that I'm leaking a small amount of fluid which I thought was coming from the pan.
He checked out the car and told me I'm leaking fluid from what he thought was a sensor, above the pan. He said the the pans rarely leak on these cars because of the rubber pan gasket that is used. He was suggesting transmission shops the specialize in German cars and thought this would be a big job to fix. He didn't charge me anything.
After doing some research on this board and others, I suspect I'm probably leaking from the electrical connector O ring that so many people talk about and it doesn't seem like a big deal on this car. I still have an appointment for my local dealer on Thursday and am wondering if I should bring it there.
Have others had this problem, what did you do about it and how much did it cost to get fixed? I'm quite certain the dealership in my area is a rip-off

It's amazing. I called several hi-end repair shops and transmission shops and told them exactly what I wanted replace - electric connector and O rings on 722.6 - and all of them said they wouldn't touch it. Amazing response for what seems to be a minor (and common) repair

Well I found a Mercedes Benz specialist repair shop in the next town. Explained the problem and he told me they always replace the electric connector when the do tranmission service and showed me a drawer full of the parts.
Jacked my car, drained and removed the pan for me to inspect. Fluid was black but pan had not metal or sludge. Replaced the electrical connector, cleaned up and refilled with MB fluid. Total cost $200. I'm happy. Also went through the car in detail and listed recommended maintenance. I'll post in a new thread

The shop is in Freeport NY and is called Mercedes Benz Specialist. 26 Buffalo Ave. He has 7 lifts, 7000 sq ft and lots of MBs. Steve, the owner worked as a mechanic for 20 yrs at all the local MB dealerships.

I live in Baldwin. Sunrise Highway Baldwin was also home to Nunleys, an amusement park gone now but with a rich history. Now we have Speedworld, Autozone and Pep Boys
