Oil extractor: max. recommended air pressure
I would like to do my own oil change on my 2001 E320 using an oil extractor. There are two types, one you pump up the pressure by hand and one that uses air pressure from an air compressor.
Two that I found are the Harbor Freight 6-1/4 Gallon Oil Extractor and Northern Tool Mityvac Pneumatic Fluid Evacuator — 8.8 Liter. Has anyone here used one or the other, and which is the best? Since it uses air pressure from a compressor, what is the safe air pressure range for Mercedes-Benz W210 series so as not to damage the vehicle?
Thank you,

Suction won't matter the system wont collapse
look at the hb freight 2.5 gallon unit,it is only 20 bucks holds more then the capacity of the oil pan and filter and gets the job done.No need to spend 139 for the large unit.
Topsider and griots garage have nice units also. The hand pumped one is all you need, slightly warm the engine and it flows like water out of the tube.

I use the MityVac 8.8 quart hand pump model. It creates a vacuum by pumping and will extract all 8.5 quarts of oil at once. The more expensive model that uses a compressor just uses the bernulli effect to create a vacuum in the tank to suck the oil out and is no different than the hand pump model.

There's no way you can damage the engine with one of these.
The extractor itself will have capability built in to prevent damage to the extractor. All you could do would be to suck so hard on the bottom of the oil pan so as to collapse it, and I'd bet that won't happen.
I have the shop air Mity Vac and it works great.

I use the Mity Vac too, it's good as you don't need to wait and just change your oil anytime. The hand pump take same time but it still ok.

Hello again,
I did some hunting on the web for the Mann Fleece extended life oil filter.
One one site http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/fe...461473056.html They say its for 98 and above. I have a 97 E300D. I looked up the OEM part number for the 98TD and its the same for 97, so this filter should work for my app?? the stock oil filter is A6002-52872. This long life filter is W0133-1632767 . Many people have it driven in their head you have to change the oil every 3k mile. The industry in Europe is going to 30K KM. TO help enlighten the skiddish, www.mema.org/cmspages/getAttch.php?id=102
Most all MB autos being sold now use this long life filter.
Do many sites sell these filters?

I have the 8.8 liter Multivac pneumatic fluid extractor and it works perfectly. I hook up my small 8 gallon compressor and let it go. Sucks out all the oil in a few minutes. It is worth the extra money buy this type verse the hand pump. You can find it for less than what Northern tool wants for it. I am not sure where I got my but I know it was less than $120.
Good luck.

I can't seem to find Mobil 1 5w-40 anywhere other than my local M-B dealer @ $11 per quart. Walmart sells Mobil 1 synthetic @ $22.48 for a 5.4 quart container but not at the required viscosity for M-B. Does M-B control ALL Mobil 1 5w-40? Where are people buying it in bulk?

0w40 wt
Repeat after me 0w40 wt.
That is spec. for your engine.5w40wt.esp at the dealer is low ash oil spec. for the 05 up and the new diesels.
The dealers have been directed to change back to 0w40 for our model years. your manual calls for 0w40wt.syn mb spec.
Walmart, napa and others carry 0w40mb spec syn for about 5 something a qt. and sometimes a buck off coupon at napa.

Doesn't seem to matter what the Owner's Manual stated back in 2001, M-B is going with what they say in 2008, and that would be: 5w-40 ESP, Emission System Protection. They told me the oil now has less zink for the catalytic converters... if I could find 0w-40, I could use it, as that was the recommended oil for the last seven years. The problem is I can't find it here and except for the M-B dealer, I can't find 5w-40 either. Maybe it's a California thing, due to emmssion standards that other states don't have. I don't know, except I simply can not buy it off-the-shelf in my area.

0W-40 Mobil 1 is readily available at Auto Zone.
the ESP oil is for 2007-on diesels only. It's only available at Mercedes dealers.

You can also use 0w-30 German Castrol Syntec available at Autozone. I've been running it for about 5 months, and Its been perfect. Very happy with it in every car that I've used it in. Meets the FSS specs too.

As for Mobil 1 ESP, went back to the M-B dealer today, and I guess they don't have a clue either. I spoke with the service writer, service manager and parts manager: No 0w-40, only 5w-40 ESP, which they insist is now for ALL late-model M-B vehicles. Reminded them that on a M-B forum I was being told that this oil is for diesels and that mine was a E320. They told me that I can believe something posted on a forum or believe the trained staff of M-B, that it was my car and my choice.
Oh well, looks like oil threads bring up a lot of different answers and each 'answer' is the correct one, but of course some must be 'more correct' then others. Since I want to change the oil this weekend, I went ahead and bought the Mobil 1 ESP, which they sold to me for $7.15 per quart...
