I replaced my Seat Pad sensor, woot, no more SRS light.
Finally after like a year of having that SRS light on i went ahead and tore into the passenger seat myself and replaced my pad sensor. My sensor did not have the broken wires like most, yet just worn out. I put in the new one and wooha no more light.

Diy
Ed is on benzworld.org two ways around it pull the seat or do it in car.
Check the wires they are most often the cause and rarely the failure like the op.
If you have another car to drive do the diagnosis to discover if it is the wire and can be repaired and if not then order the part.Since most places have a no return policy on electrical items.

woot to the op he really saved himself some loot doing the diy

Also, did you take the entire seat out of the car? I've read on benzworld about OhLord's DIY and have seen guys simply unbolt the seat in a couple of places and it leans back like 90 degrees for easy access to the underneath. This would be less intimidating I think. . .

I
think they are about $180 or so.
removing the seat makes for more room to work and it is not that hard, besides you can really detail the floor when the seat is out and make it nice and clean.A clean car is a healthy car

I paid $140 for the sensor at my dealer. I did in fact take the seat out of the car, which is total cake and can be done in 5 minutes. All you need to tools wise to remove the seat is an inverted torx socket for the 4-mounting bolts.

If the car is Fitted WITH Heat and Multicontour..There is NO way to do the Pad/sensor in the car...Several friends that are MB Techs have said they have done it But from what I have seen...Its a LOT easier to remove the seat and do the job right without hacking

Attempted this yesterday - LEARN from my mistakes boys!
1st of all. . .don't let the (external torx e12 socket) thing outthink you. I went to Home Depot, Lowes, Autozone, the father in-laws garage and NOTHING. Out of frustration I tried a 3/8" socket and it worked no problemo. Unless your first name is Gunter or you REALLY enjoy David Hasselhof, there is no need for the torx.
2nd. Buy the replacement sensor BEFORE you tear into the seat. I got it all apart and visually inspected the wires and found no visible deterioration. Called the MB Parts department at 4:10 Saturday afternoon to find out they close at 4:00pm until monday. . . I'm in Lima Peru monday. . .If it works out you don't need the sensor, return it. But don't get caught in a bind like I did (yes, I put the seat back together and in the car knowing full well that I was going to have to do it all over again.
3rd. The plastic clips that hold the jute to the leather need not be broken. If you grab the base with a pair of pliers and twist 90 degrees, they come right out totally reusable.
That is all, thank you.

From a
guestimate it most often is the wires. So if you buy the pad before the fix and the wires are the issue, the pad can not be returned at most parts depts. because it is an electrical item.If they do take it back at some parts d there is a restocking fee.
Why did you put the seat back in,if you are going to be in Peru?
enjoy the trip and finish the job when you get home.
