Will 1999+ Red/Clears work on a 1997 W210/055?

Hello all- I recentley ordered a set of red/clear tailights off of eBay (yeah, yeah, I know)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/96-02...spagenameZWDVW

...and they absolutely suck. Buyers beware- the connector teeth are crooked, the seals are half-assed and the bulb mounts are very loose; Taiwan just plain sucks, and for $120 with shipping and tax, what a rip.

Question: Will the OEM 1999+ lights (red/clear) fit my 1997? The pin mounts look identical, but I dont know if it is the same connector. I found a set of used 2000 red/clear OEM for $180. Thanks

Chris

fit wise, they're pretty interchangeable between 96-02, but (!) if you have
tails from the face lifted models and trying to use in pre-face lift cars, you
may need to sand a bit from the rear of the reflector. about 10 mins of
careful sanding, trial fit, sand again, etc....for each side. 1999 should be
direct drop in for 96, 97, 98 as well.

i have OEM E55 (smoked) from 00 and fitted to my 99. 98% fitment...and a
little sanding of the plastic. degree of difficulty, 1 out of 10.

fleebay...

Thanks, I was getting ready to buy these clear ones as well, then I saw your post. The problem is, the OEM models cost about 380 dollars, the wrecking yard occasionally has the clear ones for 200 dollars... dammm...

consider this: occasionally folks who have face lifted clear/red have a desire
to upgrade to smoked/red, e.g. off the E55. if so, they may sell their OEM
clear/red for reasonable price. you may want to post a WANTED over on the
appropriate AMG forum in case it'll prompt someone to respond and think "hey...
I have a pair of those sitting around !....."

I love their ad:

*Made by OEM approved manufacturers with quality meet OEM standard Let me see how much a full set goes for, just for fun...

Edit: ok, $78+$48 per side, so about $250 for the full set for real OEM.

This is from a '99 E55 as I'm just guessing. If anyone has the correct part number for red/clear and red/smoke, that would be helpful.

I actually ordered a set of those lenses and the reflector portion of the lenses took alittle "doing" to get them in. However after that, I found that the circuitry is mis-aligned when trying to screw and lock the bulbs for the brake/tail lights, which is the outer-most bulb (the reverse and other taillight circuit worked fine). So after about an hour of jacking around with it, I found that the initial contact (PRIOR to turning and locking) from the bulb to the circuit was the correct postion for full functionality of the brake and tail lights. Once I turned the bulb to lock, I lost functionality. So rather than order OEM, I just took 2 long zip ties (one for each side), positioned the bulb correctly, and threaded the zip tie around the bulb housing and through the inside of the lense, and then back around to the other end of the zip tie (really tight) to lock in position. I know it sounds quirky, but they now work and look great and I didnt have to order new OEM lenses.

lot of work...

Do you have a photo?

It sure sounds like a lot of work for a company that claims "OEM Fit". I may hold off and keep my stock non facelight tail lights for now...
