Esp, Bas Malfunction
malfunction came on today during rain, dealer said to turn it off and on again, and i did that and the lights went off, anyone have any ideas what triggered this, and should i bring it in to the shop? my local mb dlr said all i havve to do is shut it off and restart, it might be dirt on sensors, is this hokus or ??? anyone suggestion r helpful, thanx in advance guys, by the way its a 2000 E430 Sport, with 28,000 miles

Mine was caused by a faulty switch somewhere in the ABS -ESP system electrical loop. 3 hrs labor to fix it.
But my warnings atarted up every time I turned on the engine. Yours may be dirty sensors.
I don't believe trouble messages will ever just go away. Something has to be cleaned or replaced else the warnings will haunt you forever.

anyone else having a similar problem? my dlr just said after he got it on his comp, said no codes were being read, and to bring it back when it lights up again, anyone have a similar prob?

Mine was a faulty brake sensor, the dealer replaced it charging about £1.50 for the part and a Hours Labour costing about £56 in Total.
I have been told that when the ESP/BAS light is Iluminated the Traction Control is disabled !!

Maybe it's a problem of electrical contact somewhere (batterie?).
Whenever you disconnect/reconnect the batterie, you will get the ESP/BAS-error. You have to "recalibrate" the brake pedal whilst pushing it down when ignition is turned on (engine not running). You also will have to recalibrate the window lifters and the sun roof (see the manual).

confused
Ok guys now i need your help on what to do, when i bought the car in to the dealer, the lights for the malfunction were not on, and they said the car DID NOT store any malfunctions, so now what do i do? the light comes on once in a while, the shuts of when the car is reset, any input fellow members?

Your best bet is to take the car STRAIGHT into the dealer as soon as the light comes on. Turn on/off is a WORKAROUND, and NOT a fix. The fix will probably involve replacing some bad/dirty sensors by the dealer. Don't accept a workaround for a car under warranty.

Thats a good answer but my problem still remains, whenever i bring them the car at the dlr , the light is off, and they tell me they dont see anything wrong, a few days later it will go off and then when i restart its off, ??? do i just go to them and demand they fix something???
