shift speed

Is there any way to tightened the shift intervals on the E320 Tranny? They seem slow to shift gears especially in manual mode.

The shift intervals on the E-Class year 2000&up depends on how you drive. The transmission electronics will memorize your driving habit and will shift accordingly. Try driving your car a little aggressively and then you will notice the difference next time you drive your car.

Agreeing with ohlord and Ozcan; both of these methods will reset the transmission control unit. If I remember, with the car off and key in position 2, push the accelerator all the way to the floor and hold for 10 seconds. That will reset it to factory specs. Then drive more aggressively and your driver adaptive transmission will adapt to your preferred style and shift points.

Rather than trust my memory, the re-set procedure should be in your owner's manual.

for an ongoing thread that I posted the reset procedure and all the people that wonder if it works on their model
also a recent post on benzworld.org w210 section on trans reset where we go over the customized procedure for each gear reset it takes more time but if done properly you can adapt each gear one at a time.
other than these have you changed your trans fluid and filter with mb fluid?
I have the special dipsticks if you pm me.Sluugish up shifts in manual shift are often old fluid related.

remember to leave the key in the ignition for the 2-3 minutes you are sitting twiddling your thumbs.

Thanks for the info. i appreciate learning how to chnge the shift points. Now what I am after is how to quicken the intervals between shifting gears especially in manual mode. Does the aformention procedure respond to that as well or is something else required? Thanks again.

crisp them up a bit,but remember it is still a wagon with a 320 m112 so it is not going to break any records unless modded.

Oh lord for the info. I have not yet changed the trnny oil and filter. I am mechanically inclined but am new to this model and not that well learned on trannys in general. Can I perform this change and if so what is reqired for fluid and tools? you mentioned about a special dipstick?

mb fluid only and it will firm up and smooth shifts.
Quicker and I mean much quicker shifts need the new custom valve body sold for about 7bills.You will not be needing that
just do the reset and change the filter and fluid.
