Starting trouble..it cranks but won't fire
A couple of times in the last 2 weeks my E320 cranks fast but won't fire up. After several attempts it starts normally. It usually fires on the 1st crank. I searched several pages of threads and found this problem mentioned a couple of times but no cause was mentioned. Suggestions were that they take it to the dealer. I don't like my dealer and he's 50 miles away. Any new suggestions or theories as to why this is happening?
Thanks for the help.

It's a 99 V6. Check engine light is not on. Thanks for the tip about Auto Zone and codes. I had a cam position sensor go out on my 99 CLK430 but it didn't act like this. In the CLK it would just die when the car was well warmed up, like at a traffic light. The E320 has only done it after the engine was running OK but not that warm and then got turned off.

cam sensor
hard starts when cold, crank sensor hard starts or stall when warmed up.
both easy diy's and both rarely throw codes,so it is often cheaper at the price from autohausaz.com to r/r both or the one that is the most common problem. Then have the honor of having the dealer screw you to tell you the same thing and charge you $300-500 bucks to do what you can do for yourself for less than $100.![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

Well my E430 is doing the exact same thing. Its even died twice while running, but starts back up. My mechanic said I needed 2 crank sensors and 1 cam sensor. Do them all at once. That sound correct? Also how hard is it to change myself? I dont have a jack, so crawling under the car isnt available. If I get my production number can you all get me the parts. I think I can save money getting them myself and having him put them on.
Thanks,
Paul

ok guys
there are a few things that it could be. The crank sensor is the most common of all. The other thing is the fuel pump. The only way to check is checking pressures at time of problem. The way you could test the crank sensor is remove it and heat it up with a heat gun at the same time test sensor resistance. The ohms should be about .9 to 1.3k ohms. If it goes open or higher than spec it is bad. You don't need a jack to remove this sensor it is located drivers side behind head. Should be e8 torx bolt.

i changed my cps last week... autohausaz was backordered so i had to shell out 150 at the dealer. anyway, they wanted 200 to put it in, what a joke. it took me less than 30 minutes to do it and i took my time. it isn't really that hard to get at unless your hands are ogreific. E8 torx is what you should use but i used a 1/4" socket... it fit pretty much perfectly, didn't feel any threat to stripping the bolt. make sure you use a thread-locker like locktite.

Let your car sit overnight or at least 8 hours or so. Instead of trying to start the car as you normally would, turn the key so you engage the starter for just a second and turn the key back off (do not let the car even try to start), do this 3 or 4 times in a row. Then try to start it like you normally would, if it starts OK at this point then it is most likely the fuel pump check valve.

E280 1998; W210, will not start
Hi guys,
I have the same problem; car is not starting + computer display is black + saloon rear light is off.
If it is the CPS, please share some photos on where it is located exactly![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
I was driving the car this morning and it was perfect. came back and parked the car; 3 hours later it is not starting; cranking very well but no start![Confused](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
The computer display was initially on, but after trying to start it several times, to no hope of course, computer display went off.
tried to disconnect the battery, with the key off, then I came to realize that the saloon rear light is off. Odd huh
Disconnected the battery though, both positive and earthing, reconnected after few minutes... still the same.
Seems I am about to spend some real money![Confused](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
You help and any input is realy appreciated.
Thanks a lot.
