Show me your front rolled fenders...
I would really like to see what 210 rolled fenders look like on a non AMG 210:
I have finally accumulated a reconditioned staggered set of 2001 E55 AMG wheels that I plan on putting on my 97 E420. I want to go with the stock 2001 wheel size:
FRONT:
245/40/18
18 x 8” ET31
REAR:
275/35/18
18 x 9” ET35

if you're contemplating, or already have, lowered your ride, having that 245 in
front with such a low ET may put it very close to, if not actually, touching the
inside of the fender lip.
when 'rolling' is done, you're not really rolling the fender to induce a reshape of
the fender, but just the inside of the lip. as shown below, where the edge of
the lip is quite pronounced and felt by hand.
![](http://i33.tinypic.com/347z6hk.jpg)
be it with baseball bat, large pipe, or an Eastman (et al) roller, they all serve
primarly to modify only the lip itself. the result gives you about 5mm more
clearance on the inside. The outside remains pretty much the same unless
you opt for serious fender rolling, which may require hammering and reforming
of metal.
I've had a 245 on ET31 from a W211 E55 which I put on my W210 E320.
I didn't have rubbing unless 1) I encountered nice dip in the road which induced
wheel compression of 2-3" or more, or 2) after I lowered 1.25" nearly every dip
resulted in lip rub. the outside edge of the tread...then down to towards the
sidewall showed slight shreading of rubber.
I didn't gamble on 235/40 and just went to 225/40 to cure the problem. yes,
I could have experimented with different 235 profiles to see which would
scrape and which didn't. But I didn't have the time, nor the money to chase
this angle.

Are you going to drop it?
do yourself a big favor go with 235's on the front, the factory lip will be fine and if you lower it you will if done properly leave room for different brands of tires, some have profiles on the sidewalls that make 245's even with a roll ,rub at times.Besides the 275's will look huge as a stagger set up.If you do drop it have you budgeted the camber eccentrics and rear links?

getting closer to having monoblocks on my non amg 210
Great photo, and advice...the fender rolling suddenly looks much easier now.
Here’s some additional information:
I have bilstein HD shocks with 40k miles on them. I lowered the car a few weeks ago, I did a cold cutting of one full coil in the front, and ¾ coil in the rear. I have the front left running a #3 pad, with the front right running a #1 pad to balance out the sagging left spring I have.
I then put on a front wheel as a test with a 245/40/18 Michelin Pilot sport tire. Oddly enough I seemed to have enough clearance and didn’t experience any rubbing during my test. My only guess is that the pilot sport wheels must be the right width for this setup, albeit expensive.
I’ve priced camber arms from lensolo, he wants 265 for the rear, which currently shows a negative 3 degree camber with my 17 inch sport wheels. We’ll see what happens when I put the monoblocks on.
Yes, the staggered setup with 275’s in the rear will look dramatic, but I that’s partly what I looking for. If I go with these stock E55 tire sizes I may have to put in #2 or #3 pads in the front, or maybe even roll the fenders.
I need to save up for tires, camber bolts, and my brake sensor will be going on soon, so add new front rotors and brake pads, etc, etc. I'll need around $1,300 dollars to finish this job- good thing I have another car to drive.
Thanks guys,
Al

Same rolling
diameter tires is not going to change the camber. You will still be at neg -3 when you put on the 18's and that is beyond racing specs for track only. You want to shoot for -.5 on the rear.

My car is running 245/35/19 with ET37 in front and lowered with H&R cupkit. I have some rubbing but only when turning over bumps. I did roll the fender lip from 10:00 to 12:00 (if you use Raymond's pic as an example counting the A as 12:00. The only spot on my car it really rubbed was around 10 or 11:00. Once you get up around 12:00 and beyond I have no rubbing problems and didn't have to roll the lip. However with your ET you may have problems around the whole lip.

Listen to what OhLord is saying and go with the 235's in the front. I had the 245's and they will rub at the dips in the road. It's been about 2 months since I switched and the rubbing has never returned.

I'm running 245-40-18's on 8.5 wheels in front with 35 offset along with camber bolts and rear links. No rub in five years and 70k miles. Car is not lowered and no fender roll. Rears are 18-9.5 and 275-35-18. Sway bars were also swapped with larger units.

pics of rolled fenders on 97 E420
Rolled fender edges on my 97 E420 with Eibach Pro-kit suspension and KYB-A gas shocks, original AMG Monoblock Ultralight 3-piece wheels, 225/40/17 fronts, 245/45/17 rears, camber angle adjustments and 4-wheel alignment, even tire wear, no rubbing, good handling, excellent ride.

foreyes 225/40/17 fronts, 245/45/17 ?
something amiss with those numbers? Neither is oem rolling diameter and your rear tires are an inch and a half taller than your fronts and your front tires are spinning 60 revs more per mile?Numbers get mixed up or are your sizes totally out of spec?
235/45R17 and 265/40R17 would be dead on to oem diameter abs, esp, cruise control and speedometer would all be accurate.
Within 3% is the guide line for margin of error and you are over 8%![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
or you copied down your tire sizes wrong![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

foreyes...
Awsome wheels and car foreyes... Why not take the plunge and lower it...
Everyone said I was crazy when I did a colt cut on my stock E420 springs, but the result is incredible. I can't even look at stock springs on a E420 without make my aforementioned comment...
