Tape Deck Question

Hey all,

My family has owned a 2000 E320 since new. I am currently driving it now, and it still runs like a champ. The only issue I'm having lately is with the tape deck - lately it squeaks and squeaks on side "A" but doesn't make any noise on side "B". Is this a sign of the tape deck wearing out? I tried to use a cleaner kit from Radioshack, as recommended by a guy at a local A/V place, but no such luck (I didn't think it would work anyways).

Is there a way to hook up an iPod besides the tape adapter trick or the poor quality FM adapters? I heard about an AUX input in the glove compartment, but I don't have the COMMANDS system.

Thanks, -Jack

You can always return it

if you don't like it,but for over a year in our 99 wagon a pleasant unit that moves from car to car and even to the home laptop to beam stereo to the Bang and Olufsen from pirate movies a Griffin road trip has served us quite well.Nice sound, bends to any position,no static.Others pull the radio, feed the cassette adapter out the backside and get by that way.

I'm bummin, since I don't think I can bring myself to use a cheapy iPod FM transmitter. I just can't stand the way you lose the low and high end frequencies with them. I found a dealer a few towns over I might set up an appointment with to have them look at it, although I took my old adapter apart and removed all the guts except for the magnet and wiring, so the noise is *slightly* less annoying as before.

Any other advice is gladly welcomed,
-Jack

I heard rumor that when the spindles wear out they can produce the noise I'm describing, does anyone know anything about that?

Thanks, -Jack

Well you can always go the Ebay route and just replace the head unit. Should be able to get one for under $100.

wow, now that's pretty cool. Great value. I don't mind my trunk mounted changer although it's pretty dated technology. Actually it was dated in 2001 when this car was made.

the in dash CD is a good feature, too. Note that it doesn't have a tape player so, if you want to play your old cassettes, you will be out of luck.

i find it pointless to have an in dash MP3 Cd player with a 6 disc CD changer in the back that supports only normal audio cd's. And its more common to burn CD's with Mp3/Wma/aac tracks opposed to standard mp3 tracks. Besides i think you should go full aftermarket head unit because for 300$ you can get a GREAT head unit with superior sound quality and much more features than that stock audio 10. You could have full speed Ipod adapter, or AUX adapter and even integrate blue tooth in. (I have the blue tooth unit and its great). I have an Alpine CDA-9887 and its got a graphic and parametric equalizer. I fine tune EXACTLY how i want my music to sound and it sounds much better than a stock head unit would by FAR. But its all personal preference if you want to stay stock, then miss out!

EDIT:Stupid me didnt reply to your question.
Check this out maybe its what you are looking for. I dont know how it works but I just remember I saw it before.
