retrofitting xenon headlight
Hi
Will replacing the original halogen headlights with 35W xenon headlights trigger the blown bulb warning?
any experience with this?

If You are replacing the complete headlight assy to a Xenon Unit the car needs to be version coded Xenon Present via the SDS ..otherwise the lights will flicker
If You are just swapping bulbs...It should be ok as long as the replacement bulbs are a matched set ..as the Headlight control unit measures resistance

consider this as an alternative, if you have difficulty getting a dealer to code
this for your car. some dealers may refuse.

But
remembert you just can't install xenon bulbs into halogen buckets, they are not designed for them. You need ballasts and if retro fit the light is very very bad.If you do find a set of factory option xenons they will cost you a pretty penny and then the sds time per Mark will run you even more.Steve is making a swing across the country if you have a set he might program them in if you contact his sister.
Mark has his E mail
I haven't broken free of the local area up here to go on the road and borrow a buddies SDS that has all the bells and whistles.Cheaper that way.

We are talking DEPOs with true xenon here. The thing is, my friend has halogen headlights on his 00 e-class and is wondering if installing depos with an AL/Bosch D2S hid kit will trigger the warning..

If he
installs depos and does not convert them to projectors.it really won't matter if the warning gets triggered or not.He won't be seeing 50 feet down the road,so the warning will be the least of his concerns![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

it is likely to trigger the bulb malfunction...though, having said that, this may
depends primarily on the model of ballast used vs the bulb itself. case in point,
I have a E55 in a Depo, using a Hella gen3 ballast which does not require any
capacitors, resistors, or dealer SDS. no bulb malfunction code.

OK, so I'll play safe and add a cable to connect a resistor/capacitor module, then we can connect that if he gets problems...
