Command Question – Dealer not very clear
I retrofitted a command on my W210 a while back and have taken it to both dealers in Raleigh and Cary,NC for them to program it to display the directions on the instrument cluster. The output – according to the dealer my 2001 year is the older model and cannot be programmed for the directions to display on the instrument cluster.
Is the dealer correct?
The command on my car came from a 2000 E55, and per the previous owner the command did display the directions on the cluster.
Do I need some special wire for the command to display the directions so it can be programmed by the dealer using the star diagnostic system? Or is this a case of ignorance with the dealer.
If anyone has instructions on how to make this happen kindly reply to this thread so I can have this functionality enabled.

It can be programed via the SDS
I Have a 2000 and it works great!
Try and talk to a shop foreman ...or a Tech that can USE a SDS other than reading out stored codes

before programming the comand to display in the instrument cluster, one needs to move a wire in the 38 pin diagnostic connector under the hood so the SDS can see the comand system.

Mark - I don't think the mechanics at the dealershp are clear on the steps to make this happen. They used the star diagonistic system and charged me $99 or so only to tell me they programmed the CD, radio and settings but could not have the command directions show up on the cluster.

When the comand was installed did the installer run a wire to the 38pin connector?Inside the fuse box?

I don't think the installer ran a wire to the 38pin connector. He hooked up the VSS and utilized the canbus adapter I believe.
Do I need a get a new wire or the wire is already there and just needs to be routed to the fuse box ?
If it is a new part I would apprecaite if someone famliar with this can pass on the part #......if the wire is there just some basic instructions and I will have my mechanic take care of it so the command can be programmed.

You need to have the Pin moved over. For the stock radio its in a different location on the connector. Under the hood of your car there is a black plastic box on the drivers side of the car close to the front fender and the firewall. Lift up on the cover and you will see a round connector that is where the SDS tool plugs in. You need to move the wire that is currently going to pin 33 over to 34. The connector is only held in by a screw or two just remove the screws for easy access to the connector. Its numbered on the backside. Its probably grey colored wire. I just took at look at my car to confirm. Hopefully, that is the problem.
