Help! Smart Key won't work..locked out of 2000 E320!

Help! Smart Key won't work..locked out of 2000 E320!

Hi all -I woke up this morning to try and go to work and of course - my smart key for my 2000 E320 would not unlock my doors, flash lights, interior lights, etc: tried both keys, both keys had red light on fob flash, and alarm indicator inside car flash - tried mechanical key and unlocked the car, but of course the alarm went off, but the car still started up, so it's not the battery - does this sound like a fuse to anyone else?

Not a hell of a lot I can do sitting at work and I'd like to know what to do when I get home...This is FRUSTRATING. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thanks much.

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.

in short the key generated the rolling code needed to start the car properly but the system did not id the key to allow entry.Check fuses 16 and 41 (at least those are a start for the central locking system on most 210 models.)teat them pulled with a multimeter.And never with the key in the ignition.If the fuses are good.You may just need to wake the system up and that requires a reset of the car.PM me and get my phone and I can talk you through it faster then typing.Reset procedure may be on benzworld.org w210 diy section also.

I have to run some errands so check your pm.
the alarm should not go off upon blade key entry so something needs to be reset.

thanks very much for that - I just got the PM before I checked the post so I'll try and troubleshoot when I get off - I think I saw that reset post on benzworld about disconnecting the neg. battery cable and turning the wheel lock to lock - but I might be confusing it - thanks again

My 2000 E320 did they same thing and the car needed to be reset like ohlord said.

Although my owners manual on page 32 states this:
Mechanical keys
Notes:
The mechanical key does not operate the central
locking system or antitheft alarm system.
The fuel filler flap cannot be locked or unlocked with
the mechanical key.

If I open my car with the mechanical key the alarm will sound when the door opens.

There is always the chance the PSE pump is bad, it provides vacuum and pressure for the locks, and is controlled by the infrared system

In his first post he stated the car doesn't flash lights, doesn't turn on the interior light, and the alarm doesn't turn off. All of these should still happen with a bad PSE pump...
