Hi all, I'm Hendy. I really need your help right now.

I guess there's a transmission problem with my E240. Yesterday I found a very rough gear movement. Today I found it like powerless. Sometimes the car won't move even the clutch is on 'D' or 'R'. I restarted the engine, then it went normal. After a few miles driving, the problem showed up again. Whew...

What happen to my Merc? Is it gonna be a serious problem? What am I suppose to do with it? Thanks a lot guys for your help...

YourCar
went intto limp mode.Could be several things. All the way from spilling coffee down on the shift console to the common electrical connector leak at the harness going into the transmission. You need to examine it for the leak, get the transmission codes read on a scanner and then it could be an easy fix or ..........

My 01 E would go into limp home after downshifting, a restat cleared it intill next time. It turned out to be the throttle cable sensor on the front wheel arch.

You should start with a fault code readout. or else you are waving in the dark...

A fluid and filter change would also be a good place to start, together with changing the leaking connector (they "all" leak after this many years). But in case there is some electronics inside the transmission, you would want to know that before changing so you can do the necessary repairs while you're at it.

I recommend changing fluid AND FILTER twice in a short mileagespan to get out as much dirt and old fluid as possible

You didn't say anything about your mileage, but I would guess 100 000km or more..

Thanks a lot for the advice bro.. I've called the MB Service Center here, the advisor said that it could be the converter or the turbine.. Is that what you mean?

I'll check it. I've brought my car to the service center.. Talking about changing fluid and filter, I regularly change it every 10000km. Now the mileage is around 54000km.

No. The fluid and filter are fine. No need to change those stuffs. The problem was the torque converter. It didn't work properly, so the car won't move even the clutch is on Drive. Whew...

Have you ever met that kind of problem? The service advisor said that it usually happens to a +100,000km car.. Well, it makes me worry... My car's mileage is now 55,000km....
