Spark Plugs, Wires

Hi i am getting ready to order my spark plugs, however i am very undecided on which plugs to get.
Dealer wanted 17.96 for some bosch spark plugs. Thats a rip off.

Ohlord recommend the ngk 7090
Whats the difference between the ngk 2647/5464/ and 7090?
Big price difference,

also is anything wrong with these from bosch?
http://store.impartsol.com/sparkplugbosch23.html

So many to choose from. Price vary so much. Need help on which ones to get for sure.

Also ive read about the magnecor wires. Should i change the wires out as well?

Thanks!

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
bosch 7422

and ngk 7090 are both fine. Most closely resemble the performance of the oem plug that was good for 100k.Both platinum single side electrode plugs(the kind this engine likes)and both up to the task.Use no anti seize, use the 17mm special boot tool, don't yank on the wires don't remove them from the coil end, remember top front bottom back when reinstalling.Make sure you have a short u joint socket extension to help make room for the last plugs back.Use a thin wall socket and make sure the ratchet wrench is one with the center release button.Makes it easier to pop off the 16mm plug socket and spin the plug out by hand in tight spaces.
Do the passenger side first, after that the drivers side will seem like a piece of cake.

No don't change the wires.Magic core or what ever is a akin to Kand N marketing, all talk no action.Your oem wires will last nearly forever if taken care of and transmit all and more enough amplified voltage to ionize the a/f mixture.

Hi,

I have the same issue. It's time for ordering my plugs but I did not decide the "best" plug for my car (2001 E320).

Which plug is the most appropriate for high-performance usage?

7422 Bosch (OE) / NGK 2647 - 5464 - 4696 or 7090?

So therefore, should I use iridium plugs?

Help is appreciated

Regards,
Dou.

P.S : I'm sorry for "ressurrecting" this old topic but nsupra and I have the same problem and I just don't want to increase topic dirtyness.

7422

or ngk7090.You don't need iridium or bentillium or dodecahedron
Just regular platinum single side electrode plugs. They are good enough to have the car still wanting to go past the speed limiter,so they offer all the performance the W210 can pump out.

for the record, Bosch 7422 are the OEM recommended plug and are Double Platinum. NGK 7090 are single Platinum. They both look quite different from the factory plugs in that they have a very thin electrode. The factory plugs look more like the old copper plugs we're all used to (thick electrode) although they are labled Platinum

I replaced my original plugs at 100k with Bosch 7422 and the car runs perfectly. No better, no worse. It ran perfectly before I changed the plugs and they didn't even look that bad with all that mileage.

I used Bosch 7422 also

Mileage 138k! Even though bought it with 85K and all service records, I have no way of knowing if they were replaced before or not. Old plugs were OEM with thicker electrode and looked in very good shape. There's no difference in driveability with the new ones either. I have to just drive some more to see if there's an improvement in fuel economy.

Only thing I'm curious about is that old plugs had a noticeable difference in tightness when removing them. A couple had oily residue at the base of the thread. These were the looser ones. Is that an indication of not being tight enough maybe?
