Slightly bigger rear tires?

Hello people,

I stumbled on a nice deal regarding a set of wheels, they are replicas of the classic AMG wheels and are fitted with new tires.

Front tires: 205/40/ "17
Rear tires: 215/45/ "17

Is there a downside on having slightly wider and higher rear tires?

are you sure those wheels came off a mercedes and can fit your car? are you sure those wheels have 5 lugs spaced 112mm (112x5). what's the offset? get the wheel size and offset from the seller (example 17x8 et37) but i;m sure you won't have any rubbing issues with those wheels are you sure you have the correct numbers? 205 and 215 seem a little too narrow and won't look good on your car. also the diameter 205/40/17 is way off the car specs, but 215/45/17 is not that much off so it should be ok in the rear if you don't have a 4-matic. but those wheels will look funny on your car. what's the price?

Here are some pictures, tires aren't brand new. I said 400€ and he want's 500€. But if they are going to look weird on my car I won't even bother.

These are the stock wheels on my car right now, the tire sizes on all 4 wheels are 195/65/ "15. I like the classic look but I just feel it's time for a sportier touch.

17 actually look perfect for w210 in my opinion, what i meant is that 205 is too narrow. i have 17 and i have 235 front, and 245 in the rear for spring/summer/fall, and i have 225 for my winter tires and they look a little narrow, so i would imagine 205 and 215 would look narrow. cuz w210 in usa came with 16 and 17 wheels, not with 15. maybe in europe they did. do you have a w210 or w124? what year is your car?

sorry, didn't see your second set of pictures. you definitely have a w210. don't get me wrong, those 17 wheels will look fine, better than the stock mb;s, just make sure you put the 215 45 17 in the back. hopefully you will buy them with the price you want. good luck and post some pictures. just make sure they are 112x5 (112mm between the 5 lugs), and when is time for new tires, put 215/50/17 or 225/45/17 instead.

Thanks for the info, the 112mm between the lugs is a good pointer, cheers.

If you are using a 17 inch wheel non staggered meaning all the same width then go with a good tire of the size 235-45-17 all around and that will keep your speedo correct and no issues with clearance provided that you stay as close to a 35ET as possible. Check on the back of your wheels for the ET number. Those other tires do not look too healthy. Maybe you can sell that to the guy that you will need tires and get the price down further. Cash in hand talks. Good luck and let us know.

Not with those tires. they will throw off your traction control and abs

the rear wheels are less than 3% in diameter difference than originals, and since it's a rear wheel drive it shouldn;t matter that the front ones are close to 7%, so i don;t think it will cause traction control issues.
maybe the rims are 17x7, so cannot fit 235, only 225 or less.

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
3%

and 7% difference of course will cause problems.205's are too narrow and the front being off 7% is compared to the rears and the abs will trigger and the cruise control will stop working.Don't buy those rims and tires.Your front tires would be traveling 60 more revs per mile than oem and 40 more revs per mile than the rear tires which are travelling 24 more revs per mile than the stock tires.A recipe for disaster at any price.
Run
rear tires would be .7 inch shorter than oem diameter and the fronts would be over an inch shorter in diameter than the proper diameter. All your speed sensors would be off, your speedometer would be way off, your cruise control would fail, your abs would trigger,The trans could go into limp mode.If I missed anything throw them in also.

keep shopping.17inch rims 235/45/17 on all 4 is the best choice if the rim width and offset is correct.
just because the rims seem like a good deal does not make them so,if all they do is make you regret the purchase.

Oh Lord's and my tire size recommend is based on a 17x8 or 8.5 rim with a 35ET as the final ET meaning if the rim is a 45ET then a spacer of 10mm would be needed to bring it back to the proper bearing load position of 35ET.
Salute and good luck.
