Retrofit cooled/multicontour seats

I may have got my hands on a very nice nappa two color (Anthrazit/anthrazit) interior.

It has multicontour front seats (both of them), heating and cooling, and electric with memory. I don't have any of these features.

I have found I have the same central vacuum pump used on cars delivered with multicontour seats, so no need to buy a new expensive pump.

I know I have to run some wires and vacuum hoses. Is there anything else I have to be aware of? Any problems I may encounter?

here is a picture..

s-
you'll need SDS to introduce the car/PSE pump to the new appliances and
features. you will also need new dash switches....or forego the hot/cold and
just enjoy the pillow adjustments.

This is not my car. This is the wrecked car I am getting the interior from, IF I get it..

I will get the switches and some wiring, as well as door panels and accessories needed for it to work.

Paying 2000 dollars for it

Only thing I am worried about with the cooling is the indicator lights, as I don't have that in my center wood panel. And finding that panel may be a pain in the ***...

How does the cooling seats work by the way?

For 2k I'd strip the hell out of that car and sell what I dont need for the conversion. While your stripping (the wrecked car) it might help to take pics at each stage to show how everything was put together and duplicate it on your ride. I've been wanting to do the same thing but cost wise I've decided to wait until I can afford to buy a W211 with everything in it I missed on the W210 (just not too excited about having a car payment again). I'd love to have those seats and parktronic in my ride though...I wonder how hard it would be to convert a non parktronic to a parktronic? Anyway - Good Luck!

I don't have access to the wrecked car. It's in a different part of the country and will be shipped to me...

I'm not retrofitting PDC

But 2000 dollars aren't as much here in Norway as 2000 dollars are over the pond As a comparison I payed 26 000 dollars for my 01 E220T CDI with much equipment, 220 000km, one year ago..
A new 211 had a starting price at 66 000 dollars a couple of years ago...

I hadnt noticed that youre in Norway - I havent seen any W210's with parktronic here in the states. Im sure someone folks have it but it cant be common.

Currency Convertor shows...

2,000.00 NOK = 287.547 USD
Norway Kroner United States Dollars
1 NOK = 0.143774 USD 1 USD = 6.95538 NOK

THAT is a hell of a deal!!!!

Unless you mean...

2,000.00 USD = 13,893.09 NOK
United States Dollars Norway Kroner
1 USD = 6.94655 NOK 1 NOK = 0.143956 USD

In which case - its still a good deal...for the whole car.

If you do it I'd love to buy the parktronic parts off you.

I meant 2000 dollars = 14 000 NOK

I could probably get you the PDC parts, but it will be expensive. you will need new bumpers as well (or make holes and custom mounts on your own bumpers)

I think you're better off trying to find the parts in germany.

Yep - youre right. I the install would probably kill me once I got all the parts...

I ran across this though - might help you with the retro if you run into any trouble....

Steve is going to be in Norway in May...

I have decided to go pick up the interior myself. it's a 9 hour trip (each way), but at least I'll get the interior home without damage.

So is there any parts I should get with this while I'm there? I'm thinking of small parts and stuff that is easy to miss.

The new interior has electric adjustable steering wheel, I have manual adjustable, what is needed for that retrofit?

I'm dropping the steering wheel adjustment...

But I have a problem with the adjustment of the seats. Before I had manual/electric without memory. The new interior has electric with memory and therefore I have to rewire the cockpit. I have changed the wiring harness to the door, but I still have one big harness to the adjustment.

In this harness there is one ground wire, two positive wires to each seat (probably one constant current and one ignition current?), one can-bus to each seat and some wiring to the steering column.

Since I had some electric adjustment on the old seats I have power. Only ignition current, but that'll work for me.. The steering column adjustment will not be retrofitted (at least not for now). So the only wires I think I'll have to connect somewhere is the CAN-bus. Problem is, where do I connect these?

I am also currently missing the multicontour and ventilation, but that'll have to wait. looks like it aint no big deal though.

wow...you're needs are way more advanced than my skills now. i believe that
for now, on the pneumatics, you should be able to rig up a small bulb of sorts
to pump up the seat bladders. but once you deflate them, you'll need to
manually pump them up again. in other words, since your PSE hasnt been
'trained' to handle the seats yet, you could find the inlet hose and manually
inflate each compartment. the seat module/switch contains one-way valves
which will lock in the pressure to each bladder until manually released. this
would give you a little support....until you get to (or buy) an SDS multiplexor

i have no insight into your electrical needs. my car already had the wiring/
feature so it was PnP save for the pneumatics

I actually have my own star diagnosis computer on its way I have got the laptop and the software. just waiting for the multiplexer to arrive. probably just after the easter holiday.

Anyways, the multicontour isn't the problem yet, as I haven't even started with the pneumatics yet.. First I have to be able to adjust the seats so that I can drive the car. The current adjustment on the seats can't be used by me at least.. But only thing I'm missing is the freakin can-bus I think..

And just to be clear, I haven't changed the driver's seat yet... Only the passenger seats. Can't do the driver's before I know if the adjustment works...

what do you mean by bulb? not a light bulb I guess

'bulb' i was thinking a squeeze bulb like for a pump. you could try a handheld
or floor design bicycle pump.

I found it

After some searching in the wiring harness images in EPC I managed to find a "CAN Distribution block". It didn't say where it was though.. But on the same harness branch I found something that was located at "Door separation point, A pillar". So I popped the duct and searched a bit deeper than last time, and right there it was, with 3 free contacts. I plugged the can wires into the block and everything works perfect!

This WIS/EPC program is worth every single penny I paid for it!

I also got my multiplexer yesterday and that too works perfect! Managed to program the PSE to allow multicontour seats. Looked like the electric adjustment of the seats didn't need any version coding though..

Now the only thing missing is power to the seats and the switches to heating/ventilation..

only thing you need is a set of cables and multiplexer from hong kong (730 dollars incl shipping), software from germany (~150-200 euro incl shipping) and a laptop with a serial port. I am using a HP 6730b business notebook.

EPC and WIS is separate software, unless you find a package with both das and wis/epc.
