You need to call Autohaus in Florida, the part is not listed on their website but they do have many in stock. I have a spare somewhere in the garage in Pittsburgh, right now in Toronto, and can retrieve when I get home if you still need. PM me if interested. The emergency key gate on my spare is attached and in working order and that is usually the first piece to break. The replacement is very straight forward and takes probably 20-30 minutes. It is the whole shifter assembly as a single unit. The electronics module is not available separately. About $160.00 from Autohaus

My friend has a E55 and he spilled a drink in it too. I had him order a used one from Potomac parts in Maryland for $150 shipped. What you have to do is first take the leather shifter off by twisting the bottom of it. Next the wood trim with electronics on the shifter just pops up, unplug the wires. Take out the ash try, there are some screws there to take out. I believe there are 4 bolts that hold the actual shifter down, take them out. Inside the armrest pull up the carpet, underneath you will find a screw holding it down take it out. I'm not looking at my car but I think that there is one more screw behind the arm rest. When in back seat pull the plastic cover of the armrest that's where the screw is. I think then I think the whole center consul should come out. You have to take it out with the black air ducts, just pull towards the rear and the tubes should slide out from ash tray area. The shifter is held by two things a plug in the front which you twist of and a leaver at the bottom with a pin and a metal clip just slide the clip off. The dealer wanted to charge an arm and a leg to do this! Hope you get her done![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

Well looks like i had this mis hap also .. spilled some soda on a hard launch i guess and seems to have gotten around the shifter area .. But my shifter feels sticky when going from P to other gears .. also in tip mod .can feel the stickyness but still goes into all gears and switches just seems like a hesitation in tip when downshifting ..

Clean and dry it
before it possibly goes into limp mode.
Pm me if you can't find the diy to clean it.
You do not want to have it short out.

Best thing if it ever happens again is shut it down and key out asap and get it clean without risking shorts that will really ruin your day.
You may have gotten very lucky if you spilled and got away with it.

Ok thanks Its been a couple days since but yesterday I took some alcohal prep pads wiped down the black cover thinking that was it but shifter sounds different and feels a lil off from before unless I'm just thinking about it too hard. I havnt gone into limp mode or havnt had any problems shifting. So I'm guessing it didn't spill in there too bad. Maybe I just got lucky.

Thanks for posting the details. I'm trying to replace mine on 00E430 as well. Would I need to get under the car for this ? I dont have the big jacks at home to get all the way under the car for the metal clip/pin that you have mentioned at the end... ? or can this all be done from inside the car ?
GL!
