Sorry to hear that man.

I didn't even realize it was that bad in some places up here. Now I feel really lucky I didn't get hit with anything big.

Hope all works out. I would definitely push for them to total both cars. I know it would be a blow to the insurance premium, but I know it would make me feel better knowing my car wasn't previously flooded

good luck with everything

I assume the water was high enough to get into the interior - thus the electronics. Bad things can happen over time - you probably don't want that car long term.

I was in the same situation several years ago - I asked the insurance company these 2 questions:
  1. Since water damage to electrical components often takes considerable time to show up due to slow corrosion - how long is the flood repair warranty and will the insurance company stand behind the repair shop?
  2. As this is now a car with flood damage on the carfax/title - how much does the insurance company plan to add to the settlement for dimunition of value?
I got an "uh, let me call you back" with a call 30 minutes later stating that they had reconsidered and decided to total the car.

A flooded car will haunt you for the rest of your life with electronic gremlins and limited resale. Just stand firm with your insurance company and get it totaled.

Man that stinks! We got alot of water here too.... I have seen a ton of cars that were flooded due to the recent storms. It stinks and fight for both of them to be totaled. Good luck with the insurance!

Sorry for you loss. I had the same thing happen to me about a year and a half ago. Just a word of advise; have the insurance company total your the cars. You will have never ending electronic problems if they decide to try and fix your cars. I got lucky because it was cheaper to give the car a salvage title then to replace the engine so I walked out of it with a new car. Try to do the same thing.

One more thing; don't worry about your insurance premium. Mine was not affected because this was considered an "Act of God" rather then being my fault. Don't be too down; you can walk away with new cars and an unchanged insurance rate. This is also a good time to see your dealers true colors. I did everything through my dealer (paperwork, insurance phone calls, repair estimates, etc...) and they pretty much took care of me throughout the whole ordeal; provided me with a loner for 2+ weeks, gave me daily updates of what is going on and were there for me all the way.

Unhappy

Personally, I would drive it straight from the repair shop to Carmax and dump it before the CarFax catches up with it. It will look shiny new and smell nice and fresh. It will be worth top dollar on that day.
Condolences....

I think if Carmax will find out that you knew about the damages on the moment of sale, they may cancel the deal or even sue you.

I dont believe that there is a disclosure law pertaining to autos. I think that it is still " BUYER BEWARE", unlike in real estate where the disclosure is mandated; i.e. flooding or previous fire damage.
I also believe CarFax was created to protect buyers from cars with catastrophic type repairs.
By the time a commercial auto dealer gets the news, a potential buyer will have that info available too.
It is a real shame, but it's the owner or dealer.....I'll put it on the dealer every time.
For all I know, CarFax may be updated minute by minute any nobody gets away with anything.
Just my opinion....

Would you share the claim value for the E430? That might help a lot of folks trying to decide on "real value" when buying or selling one.
