Not bad, considering what you had to work with on that...

Do you really listen to tapes?

I'd mount a 3.5mm jack there and then it would look 'factory'....

that is sort of what mine looks like too!

my first attempt was I took the radio out and then ran it behind the radio but unless your wire is thin, its tough and mine eventually failed because it got cut.

you can tuck the wire in between the pocket crease there so that it runs along it horizontally and then down into it or wherever else you want to go with it. that way only 2.5" or so of the wire is exposed.

honestly though I've had it for like 3 months like this and I've gotten used to it and barely notice its there anymore. sure beats $$$ for stupid aux input .

why you don't open the radio, put the casette with wire to the inside & route the wire rear the unit to your ash tray (You cannot extract the cassete transmiter this way.. but looks cleaner as well i made this to my old HU

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but i too am looking to install a cassette adapter from the back of the headunit. I've tried to run the wire from them middle but when i slide the deck back in, the wire gets split. so my question is, how do you open the radio? Does it have to be plugged to completely open it to run the wire to the back?

Thanks

There was a DIY thread either here or over on benzworld that showed some good step by step pics on hardwiring in a cassette adapter. This is the way I did mine.

Here's a couple crappy pics of how mine is routed.

Since then someone has shown how to solder the input and skip having to use the cassette adapter. I'd imagine it sounds a bit better using this method. Eventually I intend to do this.

nice that picture looks perfect. do you happen to remember how you opened the top of the radio off?

My plan is to also wire the input down to the ashtray and hookup one of these:

Been a few years so my memory is hazy but I think it just popped off pretty easily.

I was about to try something like this, but I went for a new Kenwood head unit instead. It brought the existing Boze amp and speakers to life, plus now I have Bluetooth hands free and streaming music from my iPhone. Great upgrade. Goodbye "Magazine Empty"
