Tie rod end removal 1997 W210
I have tried removing the tie rod end by unscrewing the bolt to top until flush then wacked it with a 3lbs hammer(method used by many mechanics). The rod will not drop down and it just smashed the the top of the bolt a little. If I were to use the a "pickle fork" tie rod separator it looks like it would damage the boot on the tie rod end. Is there a special tool required for Mercedes Benz?? For now I have put it all back together.
The main reason I am trying to remove it, is to replace the steering rack boot.

It finally came off using a pitman puller from local Harbor Freight tools. This tool was almost too big but i made it work at the right angle and monkeying with it for about 30 min. Wacking the spindle like all the You Tube videos showed would not work to free mine. New steering rack boot went on quickly after dropping the tie rod end.

Tie Rod Tool
Here is the Mercedes tie rod tool you can use instead of hammering the joint and damaging the rubber boot and bolt or using the pickle fork and ripping up the rubber boot.
Part #202 589 02 33 00
zdmak sell um for $17 or so. Well worth it if you plan on changing the tie rod yourself.
