What is a fair price for a W210?

I am looking around for a W210, and found a 2001 that is a wagon/estate with 140k miles, looks nice from the pictures, for $6500. Is 4matic V6.

I like the idea of the wagon, we have 4 kids, are they practical at all with passengers in back?

It's worth getting it inspected by a knowledgeable mechanic familiar with MBs. Inspections cost about $250-$400 and should include a written report of what has been inspected. Read the 'Look Here First' post above to see what the potential problems are and for the scope of an inspection.

If it has been well cared for and it has the service documents to prove it, then $6500 for a 2001 4Matic wagon is probably about right. Although, you could probably find an even better deal if you are willing to shop for a few months. You'll pay a little extra for a 4Matic and take a little hit on gas mileage but it's handy if you ever need it.

W210 wagons are safe, well made, get good gas mileage (18-20 around town and 26-28 highway), have reasonable performance and are fun to drive. Third row seat is pretty much for kids only. But most of them get a kick out of seeing cars out the back window.

Am I the only one that finds it very distracting when people put their kids there and they're waving/making faces at you while you're trying to drive?

I have a 99 K2500 Suburban now, yes, the 7.4L/454 even, which my wife drives around town in at a nice 10 mpg city and she loves driving my 2000 Buick Park Ave Ultra (supercharged 3.8L V6), and I HATE front wheel drive, not to mention mushy Buick....

So needless to say I am looking for something else. I like the idea of the wagon, but not fond of wagons... But they are convenient. They can do 80% of what my Suburban can do at 3x the fuel economy... (nothing like taking a trip with 8 people, all their luggage and the family dog....but I won't do it again!)

I don't think I have ever noticed anyone in the rear facing seat on a wagon yet....

I am leaning towards 4Matic for the Chicago winters we have, and I drive backroads only to get to work and back, I need something that can handle back road drifting snow.

My 8 yr old daughter loves the 'way back seat' and loves to wave at people. If that pisses you off then there are other issues larger than buying a wagon. As to functionality, they carry alot, handle as good as a sedan and only weigh a couple hundred pounds more. Maintenance is the same for both styles. Shop the west coast and out of the snow belt for the best overall condition. Stay away from the heat of Arizona or Florida as the fade and rubber rot are challenging in both places. The engines are bullet proof and designed to go several hundred thousand miles before rebuild. Normal wear and tear items are all you should have to deal with and DIY on these vehicles can save thousands off from the dealer and are pretty straightforward to work on. Check autotrader. com and cars.com and open your search to a wide area to find the options you want.
Best wishes with the search.

It has nothing to do with other issues. It IS distracting driving in that situation. I'm trying to pay attention to the road and don't like having some kid draw my attention away from that. If I were a parent I'd also be worried about someone rear ending me as well.
