Purchased E320 Spec. Ed. 4Matic Quartz Today
Well, I bought an E320 4Matic this afternoon! Scheduled for pick-up on Monday. Didin't have to drive long to know that the E is a nice vehicle. Not exactly the rocket performance of the C32 sitting in my garage, but a bit more practical none-the-less. Great deal for all the extras. Yet, my dealer charged me full sticker [what's new with that
]. Anyway, I think it will make a great car for me.Had to trade in the old ML430 [old is a relative term since it is a 1999]. Got $25000 on the trade-in [ML had 26k miles, Premium Stereo, Front Grill Bar, Extra Lamps, Towing, and a few extras] . Anyone know if $25,000 is a good trade-in price? Kelly's Blue Book shows ~27,500, but it is Blue Book....
Anyway, I am really looking forward to taking my new cruising car out for a real spin on Monday!

I'm in the market for one myself. Although, I've not talked with a dealer yet about pricing, I was expecting (and hoping) for prices to be closer to invoice. Is this even reasonable??
In my thinking, just the free options (about $2200-$2400) are not worth the double hit that one takes when buying a last model year car. I would rather pay the extra and just get a W211 in August 2002.
On the other hand, the free options + the car at invoice would be a good deal. I was offered invoice pricing for a 2001 in summer of 2001 - just before the 2002 came out - and thus I'm going to shoot for invoice when I try to get one.
Now, if I lived in LA or DC perhaps I could work things a bit. As far as the new model year, I am not inclined due to the inevitable quirks [and Glass Roofs?!?]. I bought this car to have a rock solid cruising mobile. If it is not a rock solid car, I will be rather, uhm, "displeased."
Getting a discount is loaction dependent. If you have a lot of dealers around, hold out for the discounts! If you live where I do, you might as well forget it. Also, I don't feel like driving six+ hours to maybe get a discount of 1,000 to 2,000+ [maybe that seems odd, but that is a lot of risk if the dealer won't deal]. I wish you the best of luck in negotiatiing--I wish I had leverage to negotiate too....
I will post pics of my C32 AMG and E320 when I figure out how to post pics.
Well, off to pick up my car now!

different from the standard ones? I bought a Special Edition and
I have a nagging doubt that they have put a standard ones
with just the MB logo with black piping.

Actually, I'm just getting into this MB thing - I drive an LS400 and it's time to change. Last year, when I was just browsing, Loeber Motors (close to Chicago) just offered me invoice pricing without me even asking. This was close to the model year end and the 2002s about a month away. I agree with getting the 2002 vs. the 2003 since the new model is bound to have teething problems but if the dealers around Chicagoland are going to be around MSRP then I think I'm willing to deal with a few minor issues and just get the 2003.
But, with the E1 & E2 options free on the 430 and a price which is close to invoice would be quite a deal
- just might be wishful thinking.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Well, I was kinda leaning towards the 4Matic and thus was conserdering buying the W210 - I know that the 4Matic for W211 will not be out for another 1.5 years. It's not an absolute requirement - just something I thought was worth getting.
If the 4Matics sell close to MSRP, as you say, then I will have to re-think my choice and just get a non-4Matic W210 (if the price is right) or wait for the W211 - I'm already stretching my bugdet with the E-Class and the E430 4Matic @ MSRP would probably push it out my range. Maybe the E320 is worth a look, or even the Lexus GS430.
Thanks for the info.
Anyway, my floor mats are devoid of any MB logo or lettering. They are simply the interior color with a black area near the pedals. The Black Birdseye trim is very nice. I like the classy look of darker trim.
Quick points about the car: Smooth, smooth, smooth. This car simply glides along the road. In some ways I like it better than the C32 AMG, but you can't beat the sheer power of the AMG. I hope this engine breaks in and gets a bit more power. The specs would indiciate it is on par with my old ML430 in the accelration department. If it is comperable (post-brek-in), that would be plenty for me [the ML430 smoked some sports cars off the line
].I will get some picks once the sun comes out again.
Off to lunch!

Your Special Edition E-Class should have special floor mats. Check out this dealer listing:

Hope this helps.
I called the MBUSA and the lady told me that the floor mats
were no big shakes except for the MB Logo and black border.
Which confirms what you are all saying. So it is a little bit
different than the regular ones.
Also, she sent me a two page brochure which tells all that
comes with the SE.
I think this Special Edition deal is a good deal
They are throwing nice options for free to sweeten the
experience. It has never been a better time to buy this
beast! I am loving it every time I drive.
Did you guys notice that this car produces a gentle hum on road?
I wonder if they installed a hollow pipe to compensate for
the engine noise. Some other car makers used this technology to
counter balance the engine noise. I could be in the far left field
with MB cars...
