DIY radiator flush

(97 e320)

Okay I know I know... I had a coolant issue low on the side of the road i added tap water.... Its approaching winter and I'm draining the radiator I have the appropriate antifreeze but and I found info and video to do the flush or radiator drain. I can't get the cover off I believe its a 9mm i got two of the fasteners off with but I'm not sure to get the rest off. I got the car with 255k on it so the faseners are not in the best shape and its snowing... Just started and it hasn't been anywhere the freezing point lately but its towing the line now so i wanted to fix it before it gets worse. All help and advise is more than welcome thanks a million in advance... Oh and this site is so much better than the Z site I use to be on

There are a total of 10 fasteners that need to be removed. Besides the front and rear pair on either side of the centerline there are three on each side just in front of the wheels. One of those 3 is kind of recessed and points to the side. All of them are anchored to metal clips (Tinnerman Clips). If the heads are rounded then either cut off the heads or maybe try to 'pull' them out with vise grips. You are not likely to damage anything other than the ciips and screws and they don't cost very much.

Depending if the rear (smaller) noise panel was mounted under or over the front panel you may want to at least loosen the pair at the back of the second panel when removing the front one.

Got it off was being lazy trying to use regular water... I've called rite aid, auto zone, hard ware store, and super market and none carry it or are out. I'm wondering if some of the people ever took science class because most of them had no clue what distilled water was. Now it seems like I have no choice... How bad is this?

Most grocery store chains have distilled water. People use it for irons, humidifiers, etc.

I know most people use distilled water (I do) but MB recommends ordinary tap water unless you have very hard water such as from a well in the Nevada desert.

You can use it

or use the pre mixed 50/50 anti freeze,or reverse osmosis distilled water at walmart.
Just be sure to burp out any air bubbles when done.
zerex go5 comes in pre mixed solution.
