new alpine headunit will not turn on?

Hey guys I'm trying to install dis new alpine cde121, I got a wiring harness and Hooked it up except for the antenna (don't listen to radio) and I got the black wire (ground) from harness and hooked it up to the black ground coming from the head units plug and ran that qire into my cigarette lighters ground. When I power on everythinngb works properly even the 12v cig socket but the hu wontturn on... does the new hu need its own ground? If so I'd have to run a long *** wire to the back because I can't find a paint less metal surface near the hu.
When I plug In the original Bose it works fine... any suggestions? I've tried e vevrythinng

OP, you are tapping the wrong power wires. If you use a Metra harness for a VW, I think you have to switch 2 wires. If you look on here, you should be able to find which.

Fabio, are you just using one of the Euro antenna converters? Does FM work?

swap the constant 12v battery and the switched 12v ignition wires (red and yellow).

that was a problem with my headunit install... however, even hooked up backwards (the way most harness kits end up), the headunit will turn on... it will just lose it's memory when you turn the car off.....

grounds should all be common.... no need for a dedicated ground just for the radio. i don't know much about the bose system, but if the radio has 12v battery, 12v ignition, and a ground, it will turn on....

ps- i didn't have to splice into any wires other the the factory radio harness wires... maybe the bose wiring is different though?
