Hickups?

Hickups?
Recently my car has started to hick up when the car is idling with the AC on. As soon as I turn off the AC, it is fine. The car idles at about 600 - 750 RPM. When the car's RPM is higher, it is fine with the AC on. Does anyone know if this is the AC compressor getting ready to go out or something else? By the way the car is a 96 E320 with 128K miles on it and it has had a tune up at 120K miles.

Help anyone?
Car has been acting up all weekend.
I called the dealer and they just told me a standard answer, "Bring it in and we will check it out, oh by the way, we charge $95 per hour".
Just thought someone here may have had a similar experience.

Have you had an oil change recently.....I know when you dont change your oil regular with high miles your car will act up...this does not seem to be your ac compressor so i hope this gets some stress off your back heh...Have you done any mods to the car?
I also know that your exhauts sensors get old and will start to cause this problem. You have 4-6 sensors under your car connected to your exhaust....They are black and blue..You can check out to make sure the are all connected good but you wont know if they are bad or good unless you have a tester.

Thanks for replying, I did have the oil changed recently so I am sure that is not it.
But the O2 sensors may be just the problem.
I did have a check engine light on for the last month or so. I took it to a friend who hooked it to a computer and it was a faulty O2 sensor. I was told by a former MB mechanic that the sensors were not mechanically important to the car.
Is this a job that I can do on my own or do I h ave to take it to a dealer? Also, are there places that sell the sensors other than the dealers?

You can do this yourself...This only takes about 2 mins once your under your car.
I do not know of any other place to buy them but you can try mercedesshop.com .... I will also ask a friend of mine if he has some in stock and he will hook you up....I will give you complete directions on how to do this. Save your money and do it yourself...Its eaiser then changing your air filter hehe.
I will get back to you tomorrow about my friend.....Also...Do you know which sensor went bad on the scan or can you do a scan again....Im 99.9% sure this is the prob....I'm new to working on benz but i raced about 6 GM cars hehe.

As far as how many are on the car I do not have the answer to that right now...I did notice 2 when i was under there this past weekend but im sure there are 2 more in the front.....I'm going under the car today and I will let you know...
The bad part is....These are not interchangeable
The only way they could be interchangeable is to use the left side front and back ONLY on the left side...Wont work on the right. Same goes for the right side. I will ask my buddy today about that.Since you dont know where they are or what they look like...Just look under your car on the exhaust..You will see a black rope connect to the exhaust....thats it hehe. very easy.

Forgot to add...Before buying new sensors....Take yours out and clean them then put them back in...Sometimes when they are dirty they cause this problem.....If you do this I would recommend doing 1 at a time so you do not forget which one is where hehe.

Last night i was going out and needed gas cause i was on E as E can get...My car started to hickup but I thought it was cause the gas was so low...Right when I pulled in the gas station it died on me next to the gas pump WHEW. I then filled her up and started to drive off with very bad hickups..I was thinking maybe the gas just needed to move around before it would be fine..So i drove around the parking lot a few times with nothing buy bad hickups...I knew something was wrong and it was not the gas...So i pulled over and checked my battery...I found that the cable was lose on the battery! I tightind it up and was on my way just fine...
Might wanna check your battery as well..I forgot about this hehe.

I was out of town this weekend and have not had a chance to do anything to the car. Will work on it this weekend and will let you know. I will also check my battery connections.

Well after a few weeks of trial and error, my hickup problem has been fixed. It turned out to be not related to the O2 Sensor. I also did try out the battery connections that you mentioned. They were fine.
I had to take the car to a Mercedes mechanic in my area.
He had the same computer that the dealer uses and it told of the problem right away.
It was a faulty coil. We replaced it and now it runs fine.
They did also look at the engine harness and it was fine.
The car is running well now. I guess I dont have an excuse to buy a new E55 now.
