I like to use a clay bar followed by a non-abrasive. Someone gave me some Griot's Garage Best of Show. It's not bad- goes on and off easy and does not dry white. I am finding that it does not last very long. When the bottle is empty, i probably won't buy a refill.
Both cars are for sale this year so I'm not spending as much time on them anymore. I'll send them out for one good professional detail before putting them up.

Spend the whole week staring at a computer screen. I'm not going to do it on the weekend ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Plus we've had a rare moment of excellent weather here in England so I've been enjoying it and wishing that I had a convertible...

painting a car
benz,
too nice outside to be in front of a box all weekend..
i am curious about your upcoming paint job.
and you'll see from my questions that i'm currently clueless.
am i nuts to even think about painting my car?
i am just beginning to explore the possibility of doing it also with my car. i have tried to swap my car for another of same in silver or white, as 040 black is a labor of love just to keep decent. it seems my e430/4matic combo with my options is tough to come by (not that i didnt know it , thats one reason i bought it ).
anyway i am wondering what level of confidence do you have that your shop can paint a car like yours properly? whats the general procedure? i assume they remove any clearcoat (how?)
will they take body panels off , paint and reassemble? how many coats involved? do they remove any or all of orig color paint?
the more i type, the more questions come out? thanks in advance for any insights , j.

A friend of mine is going to be painting my car, so I have HIGH confidence. I have seen cars he has painted in the past and he has painted his car 2 times. I guess i'm a little on the lucky side having a friend paint my car. He sands the whole car down and paints it....He will remove everything for me that will not need to be painted.
Forgot to mention...The star on the trunk has been removed and he is sanding it down to remove those 3 holes on the back and whatever he has to do to make this work. I will post many pictures once the car is complete.....It's going in Aug 12th to get painted, but I wont get the car for about 2 weeks after that since I will be in vacation in Hawaii (excited).
BTW: I guess since this weekend was nasty I was the only one on....It rained and rained the whole freaking weekend

Sorry but I was out looking at houses all weekend. I can't believe how expensive the market is right now down here is So. Cal. It's freakin' ridiculous!
Don't mean to change the topic but just explaining where I was...:p

good luck and show us pics of the process if you can!

Hey Benz,
Was out of town all weekend and just had the time to check this forum.
What is your friend gonna charge you for the paint job?
I am sure it will be alot of work.
Just wondering.

The reason why he is doing this pretty much for the cost of the paint is cause i gave him alot of mods free for his car when I sold my LS1 trans am...he does awesome custom work.
