Out Of Control!!
If I were not getting spark, I would look to the fuses in the K40 board which is typically located under hood on the passenger side(LHD) with the other control modules. Good Luck!!

yes , does anyone know where the fuel relay is located ? also is it possibble the alarm system is locking out the fuel pump? i have a blade type key ,is it possible the key is defective and is no communicating with the mirror? also why would the diagnosis equopment not communicate with the car ? thanks for the answers

what i found is a relay at back left under hood inside a square box , part # a210 540 02 72 ,i took the cover off it and there were 6 relays in it, i found if i made the contact manually on middle relay it powered up the relay which controls the fuel pump and car starts and revs etc ..my question now is ,is it this relay that is bad ($290 cdn) or does somthing control this relay that has gone bad ?

Do a search on K40 repair. If you know how to use a soldering iron. Just pull out that board, and resolder all the joints which are cracked, or all the joints that go to the relays to be on the safe side, did mine a year ago, still good.

What if it is not the K40? I have been searching on here for someone to say that they resoldered their solder joints or replaced their K40 and still it wont start? I get the red light on the rear view mirrow when I lock my door and green when I unlock it. My car is a 96 I do not have a tranponder chip in the key. What eternal from the K40 prevents the K40 from engaging the fuel pump relay portion. Ignition switch? I too can turn the key to the first position and clip the fuel pump relay on the k40 and will start and am able to drive the car.
I gues my question is if this is a security issue shutting down the pump relay would I be able to start the car by simply clamping the fuel pump relay. Does the key security shut other functions down like power to ECM or Spark. Does the relay that powers the fuel pump power the ECM?

I'm not sure how it works on a gas engine, on the Diesel a bad K-40 causes the ECM to malfunction cause it laks power(there is no electric fuel pump) and the car does not start. But if one of the relays is not engaging there is a very good chance that the joints are cracked and it's not getting the proper amount of current through.

From what I can understand from the diagrams ECM powers up the Fuel pump Relay, however ECM is getting some of its power from the battery and some from K40. So if K40 is not sending power to ECM it can malfunction.
My car was diagnosed by MB as having a bad ECM, whereas in reality K40 which they 'verified' was at fault and soldering it fixed my flashing lights.

on the k40 relay there are 6 relays , the relay 4th from left side if i put a small clamp on it ,it powers up the relay to the right of it which makes the fuel pump work and car starts and runs normal ,clamp does not get hot even after 20 minute drive , the question is ,what powers up the 4th relay or is that the issue ..spend $290 and it will work for sure .. ? or is there a switch or module that is locking out the 4th relay either safty or alarm ?

Unfortunately I have no way of telling which relay is located where physically, If you can attach Hi-Resolution pictures of both sides of the board I can try to help you to map the out for future reference. I assume that the relay you are clamping is 'motor relay' If you have a multi-meter, can you check if your're getting +12V on terminal D2(Pink/Red) wire with the car switched ON.
