Oil change at the dealership? Your talking about $150 or more. Big ripoff....Do it yourself or take it to a local shop. Save big big money doing this way.

Doesn't the scheduled maintenance included in the 2000 E-class, assuming it is under 50,000 miles. Go to the Mercedes website and find out. Why pay if it is free

I paid $80 for my E Class at MB of Tampa. Yes, all scheduled maintenance is free. However, on my E, I get it changed every six months. On the C I will change it every three months. I'm just old school regarding stuff like that. Besides, its my money Im spending.

Scheduled Maintenance is free up to 50,000 miles (or 4 years from in service date). MB in Tampa & Lakeland consider "Scheduled" to be determined by the FSS. If you choose to get the oil changed earlier its your $.

If you are under a Starmark warranty, or the extended limited warranty that comes from MB, can you have an independent shop do oil changes, Service A, Service B, withouth affecting the warranty?

ouch! the prices you quoted had me reeling. I'm still learning about being an M-B owner, but coincidentally, I decided to change my oil last week. I figure it took me about 30 mins in the garage, which included swapping out the oil filter.

Though it was a bit more difficult than my pick up truck (4x4 so I didn't need to jack up), it was still pretty painless. Only tool I needed was the 13mm socket/wrench, Phillips #2 to remove cover below the oil pan, and a paper clip to pop the old o-rings off the filter shaft. Everything else was hand removeable. oh, the small floor jack was helpful, of course.

I did as much as I could on Sched B items as well. Overall, I figured about $25 US.

E class holds 8 qts of engine oil, with each qt at $4-5 for Mobil One, you are looking at $30-40 of oil. The filter is about $12.

So the material cost alone is about $50. The dealer also does inspection and you pay $100+/hr of labor. This equates to about $100-150 for the A service on average. Most will wash car and offer loaner. It's the cost of owning a nice car.

I do my own service since mine is a 98'. It's easy and you can do it at your own time. It takes less than 45 min - depending on how long you want to drain the oil.
