Help! AMG 18 Monoblock for 2000 E320?

I need you guys advice...

I'm considering purchasing the AMG 18" monoblock but I do not know what offset or size to purchase that will best fit my car (2000 E320).

Will 18x8 with offset of 31 fit both front & rear?

Will It look okie if I don't lower the car?

If anyone have a set for sale... Please email me!!!!!!

thanks

Yes they will fit fine and they will look OK if you don't lower your car with the right size tire. You might want to go with 225 45/18" tires to fill in some of the gap instead of 40 series tires. IMO, if you are sticking to 18's and not 19's I would go with 8.5's instead of 8's with a ET35 offset. They will be a bit wider and look beefier...

Go for it! How much is the auction for at the moment? I recommend lowering your car if you like tighter supensions with better handling. I have H&R Sport springs and Bilstein SP Sport shocks and love the handling and ride. It lowered my E420 about 1.4" all around. The cost for that shock and spring combo is around $800 bucks or so. You can also go with the H&R Cupkit which usually sells for around $600 bucks but that will lower your car around 2". Finally, you can also just replace your spring pads to #1's all around which should drop your car about an inch or so I believe. That is a less expensice alternative.

BTW, what color is your car???

The Wheel Supply. Also, you mentioned that the guy had these on his E55 but as far as I know, all E55's come with a staggered set-up. Mark might be able to confirm this. Therefore, I really don't think they came off an E55. The wheels do look pretty good though but I noticed that he says the wheels has some curb rash on them. How bad is the curb rash? As long as he guarantees that they are not bent, I have a wheel repair guy in Santa Ana that will refinish those lips for cheap and make the wheels look brand new. They should look very nice on your silver E...Good luck...

BTW, the shipping is way too expensive at $180.00. I have shipped several sets of wheels across the country and the most one of the shipments cost me was $113.00 including insurance via UPS. You will need to try and negotiate that as well as he is trying to make some extra money on the shipping.

I have seen the stock chrome 16's on ebay for a couple hundred bucks. What kind and how good are your tires? What condition are the wheels in? Are they the E320 or E420/430 wheels?

tread life on the tire is aprox 50%

chrome wheel does not go well with a silver car.

Just make sure, they all are same size.
I saw that auction, they will look great, low profile tires are compliment.

I dont think you need to lower your car. Put them on and see how it looks.

I agree with that. You might try taking some pictures of them and putting them on ebay. Just make sure to clean them up really well and you might get some bites. Good luck...

BTW, the reason IMO you should lower your car ever so slightly is because the E55's suspension is tighter and slightly lower than the standard W210, therefore, it would look nicer to close that gap ever so slightly. Again, that's just my opinion though and you will love the tighter more aggressice handling combined with your new wheels and tires...

Contact the Wheel Supply They can Help you on the Tires and Lowering ..

BTW The Labor is the Same to Change out the Spring pads and or To Replace the Springs/Pads ....Might as Well Just Install New Springs and Shocks ...Because Just The Spring pads Wont lower the car Enough!

Congrats on the new wheels!

As far as spring pads go, spring pads are exactly that, they are the rubber pads that the springs sit into when they are mounted on the car. Mercedes makes them in different sizes. You can find out the size of your spring pads by looking underneath you car and through your spring to the top where it mounts. There you will see the black rubber spring pad. Look closely (with a flashlight) and you will see little bumps (like nipples) on the pad itself. Count how many bumps there are and that's the size of your spring pad. By replacing your current spring pad with smaller ones, you lower your suspension. I don't know how much they cost to purchase but you can ask the dealer or your mechanic to price them for you.

The difference between replacing just the spring pads or the entire suspension is a huge one. By just replacing the pads, the only thing you have done is lowered the car. It will still drive the same if not a little bouncier because the travel of the shock has been reduced. Now upgrading to newer, shorter springs and shorter shocks not only lowers your car, but dramatically tightens your suspension and improves your handling. The drive becomes more aggressive and more responsive as the shorter shocks use their full length of travel, therefore performing ultimately.

I hope this helps as this is my limited knowledge on suspensions and my experience with my Benz. Hopefully some more tech. type people in here will respond with some more details.

Hi guys,
I have a 97 e420 sport. Is the suspension the same as the non sport e classes or is it the same as the e55s. Im considering lowering the car but absolutely love the confy ride that I have now. The problem is I want to lower the car very slightly, about 1inch max, but my local tyre/suspension dude told me that there is no after market setup that will lower the car that little. I like the e55 look. Not too much, not too little, so if i up grade my stock 17inch rim to 18s and drop to the pad to #1, will i get the desired e55 effect. All opinions are welcome.

I'm in the same boat as you.... don't want to lower to much...
but...
first I'm getting tires: 245/40/18 for the fronts & 275/35/18 rears on the AMG Monoblock II tomorrow... I will see how I like it before I lower it.....
I will post pics next week...

I am putting on Eibach springs with #4 pads all around. I think it should drop the car 1 - 1.2 inches . . .
I personally like 16" wheels and find the road noise much worse with 17". There was also a report and drive test in one of the car magazine in 1997 that recommended 16 instead of 17 stating that they had no marked improvement on slalom tests with the 17". To each his own, but I have concluded that a stiffer suspension with the 16" road cushion will be best for me.

hi there mtdceo,
I see that your tire sizes are 1 step bigger than the amg spec. of 235/40 front and 265/35 rear. Thats cool, so I guess you are trying to fill up those archs, with a bit more tire. Are you keeping the rims the official amg 8 front and 9 rear, or are you doing 8.5 front and 9.5 rear. Ill look out for your pix. Thanks
