Question E 240 Info? Anyone here knows??

Hi:

My dad just bought a 96 E 240 in Taiwan recently.

As far as I know, E240 is only available in Europe and certain parts of Asia. (Correct me if I am wrong here)

I am just wondering whether anyone here knows more info on E240, such as the horsepower and etc...

I've tried searching on the net and did not have much success...

Hope you guys here are kind enough to answer my question!

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately not too many Asian or European members here You're right, they never imported one's with engine smaller than the E320 to the States.

If another member is correct, the 96 E240 was an in-line six engine which is different to the 98+ E240s that have a V6. Unfortunately my oldest info is 97 when they only had E230's in HK. These are 4 cylinder engines and only produced 150ps (not sure if the early 240's were any better). If its any use, the post 97 V6 240's (stock) give out 170ps@5,900 rpm and max torque of 22.4 kgm@3,700rpm - barely enough for the Asian roads! Hope this helps.

Thank you very much!!

How much HP is 170ps by the way??

I know!! I don't want to offend any MB owners here, but I think my little RSX is faster than my dad's old E-class...

But obviously, I'll take the E over my car any given day!!

Yes they are, unfortunately, because of the import tax that comes with them. If I'm not mistaken, mercedes are usually priced at around $1000NT per 1cc displacement....
