so i just ordered all the stuff for a transmission quick flush. Probaly will do project next week, any tips? HAS anyone out there ever changed the fluid out of a transmission that has never been serviced in 225000 miles? hope all goes well. i hear mixed responses to do it or not do it. Im only doing pan and filter, no torque converter. Thanks for any responses

Also if you car is really hot will that give you a high reading on the trans 722.6 dipstick? Or is 80' the hottest your trans gets

Be sure to check the bottom of the pan for debris. A little fine particulates is normal but large pieces of metal or graphite indicate excessive wear or damage. Depending when in the year your car was produced it may/may not have a drain plug on the torque convertor. Once the wheels are off the ground you can rotate the transmission and look for the drain plug (same size as pan drain). I would suggest draining it if it has the plug. You'll get about 4 qt from trans and 4 qt from torque convertor.

The transmission is cooled via a radiator. If the car isn't experiencing over-heating you should be fine. Be sure to use the MB approved AFT. Plenty of DIY's online for this service.

Yes, but the pan doesn't bolt on directly. The bolts hold 'hold downs' to provide even pressure on the gasket. It'll make sense when you remove one of them and take a look at it.

Just completed my trans tune up today. Was easier than I thought, took only like 2 hours or less, draind 3 1/2 liters. Only remember seeing like 5 tiny specks of metal not bad I don't think for a transmission with 225000 miles that hasn't been serviced. Next time im going to do torque converter and pan It should be easy now that the filter is new. All I gotta do is drain and fill right??

You now have about a 50% mixture of old and new ATF. Emptying the TC will get you to 75%. Draining 4qts three more times will get you to about 95% but will require 20 qts vs 8.5 qts when you do it all at once. Which is why I recommended doing both together. This is how those without a drain plug on the TC must do it.
