Hi mate, holy i do this job in a canadian 00 E55 and i don't remembre exactly what i cut. but you have 2 ways to deactive the beams.

1) Buy a new or used dash fusebox/light switch integrated without the "alltime on" light function. (they cannot be programmed this function, i try with a sds/hht and no way)

2) open your own switch (you need to be patient) but if you have radio skills you can do it, when you have the unit opened you would see some metal wires (nikel plated and exposed. few wires) you can test wich one got +12 when the lights turn on with ignition switch in 2nd position. (i'm sure they are 2 of them) just cut the 2 wires and the lights works propperly with the switch, without staying on all the time. You no got any malfunction in the instrumment panel all works like any w210 non canadian

Hope it helps

Ok i dissasemble one used unit in the shop today! here is some pics, the cannadian car that i made the job no comes with the plastic protector in the wires, this is why i tell you they are nickel plated wires. But the unit i dissasembled today seems diferente. I mark in red the pins that i think you need to cut. Just check with a voltage meter if this 2 pins got +12 when you start the engine and the lights turns on. Dissasemble the unit (remove the plastic covers. plug all the wires again turn the engine on and check with the voltmeter what pin got +12 when the engine starts). pell off the protector of the 2 wires and cut them

Here is the pics.

* Take care and do not cut the wires without check with a voltmeter if they are the correct ones cause i make this job 2 yrs ago and i'm not 100% sure if they are. but i'm sure in this wires is the function, 2 of them Left/Right. Just check before cut

your welcome mate. Try it i make this job like 2 yrs ago but trust me is pretty easy, just take care to prove the wires before cut with the voltmeter. cause i'm not 100% sure if the 2 wires are the ones that i mark in red or the 2 ones in the left. but is in this lines for sure

Depending on the year your car is, you can change this setting from your steering wheel. You have to have the car in park, but when you push the buttons that have the arrows/message pad on them, it will go through a series of options that you can set right there on the wheel as long as you are in park. I believe it is under the area that gives stats about gas millage, once you see that one push the arrow until you see that running lights option. you can shut it off there.
If you need more help message me and i will go through mine and see exactly where it is.

The 2000 yr canadian version not comes with programable day running lights, you need to do this job or replace light switch with one without the function if you dont like the lights "on" all the day! You can program just the "Follow-me home lights" when you turn of the car and close the door they comes up and you can disable it vis instrumment cluster. But not the Low beams continuesly. I try it before
