1998 E320
Mercedes Man,

You need to post some details to get the feedback...

However, here is what to look for 1998 2000, look for the Crankshaft Balancer, there is a trend of them goign out, if it does it takes out many thing such as timing cover, oil pan, radiator..etc.. However, this can be changed for an updated parts.

Look for defective motor mount
look for the blower fan speed
Typically all of this problems happens between 70-85k

These are good cars, except mentioned above..

an import
Judging by the lights and the chrome detail, I would say 1997.

Some more details...

This car ia 96' model, and the asking price is $12,000. Very low price for an E320 IMO, but I have seen others for the same price so I wouldn't worry about it. Thanks for the replies!

How many miles on it? I have had a 96 for several years now and would recommend it. Roll the rear windows up and down a few times to listen for any noise. All E-class cars have poor parts for the rear windows. Push up and down on the front bumper or listen for any popping noises while turning. The lower control arm bushings go out after 75K miles on the E-Class. It looks like it is in good shape in the pictures.

E-Klasse, mine's a late model 98 and "pops" when I turn but only while I reverse. Does that mean something's aout to go?

Push up and down on the front end and listen for creaking or popping. Lower control arm bushings are a common problem. You might want to have yours checked.

I think most people upgrade the stereo so that they don't hear the popping any more. Flex the control arm and listen for any noise. You might not be able to hear it while driving. Just push up and down on the fender on each side.

Got a better deal...
OK everybody, bear with me . I found a better car for me,a 1998 E430 Sport Black/Beige, which is my favorite color combo. The car is selling for $21,000, has 79,000 miles with a warranty until 100,000 miles. I'm assuming the same problems that go with th 1996 E320 go for the E430. If i'm wrong let me know.

Thanks a bunch

as long as the e430 sport is clean, with no accidents, for $21K it is a steal. I think it's a very clean looking car. good luck.
