Brake Switch Failures

Hello all,
I've posted about this problem before but I'm really looking for a second, or tenth, opinion.

My brake light switch on my 01 E320 keeps failing. Almost every 5,000-10,000 miles. I've replaced in now 6 times in the past 3 years. They have all been original Mercedes parts. I've confronted the dealership about this problem, and nobody there was able to tell me anything about it. They replaced my last one and told me it was properly adjusted and that it shouldn't fail for "some time" and now here I am less than 6 months and 5,000 miles later with a failed one again.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? I'm getting frustrated with this problem!

Thanks in advance for any input.

Sounds like something is shorting it out.if it getting improper voltage it can cause them or any electrical component to prematurely fail.

I had the last one replaced at the dealer, where they tested it as I said in my original post. I do not know how exactly they tested it, but they ensured me everything was in working order and it shouldn't fail. I'm not sure what you mean by your response? How exactly would I go about testing it? The dealer and just about every mechanic in my area wants $100+ to diagnose the problem.

Take it back to the dealer that replaced it less than six months ago. Tell them their "shouldn't fail for some time" failed, and they need to figure out why and fix it correctly this time. If they give you a hard time, call MBUSA. Many times they will offer assistance or good will repair on such recent work.

thanks! Went ahead and took your advice, threatened to report them to MBUSA, and I also threw in the fact I'm looking at getting a new e class and haven't been impressed with their service so I would be taking my sales business elsewhere...they replaced the switch for free, refunded me for the last one I purchased and has replaced by them. Apparently Mercedes has "revised" the part, and it should last much much longer. They once again did not find anything wrong besides the faulty switch, and told me if I have any problems they would replace it for free no questions asked. Thanks again! Sure is nice when people help one another out on these forums in a friendly way! Others could certainly learn from you!
