Buying used E class 4matic. I want your 2 cents. please

Hello all. I am ricardo. I'm new to this site and currently I'm driving a dodge Ram pick up. Let that resonate....
I'm buying a hopefully previously loved for E class. I am not too picky about the engine. I like the v8 power but the 20+mpg city on the v6 is great considering the distances I travel for work. I am not one to worry about mileage. But really want less than 150k if I can help it. The sedan is sweet but a wagon can carry all my junk year round. What do you all think. Can I get some pros and Cons? I'm lining up test drives after the holiday.

Don't, because then you will be back whining about spending money on repairs or the wife will be complaining because you won't have any money to take her out for a hot dog!!

You're going to run into repairs no matter what you get when you purchase used. I'm willing to pay to make a good car great. Not afraid of getting hands dirty with diy. So bring it on. As far as the wife. She will have to make due with bread and water. Haha. But seriously are you saying I should avoid a high mileage w210 (?) Wagon or any merc period?
Thanks for your input.

Absolutely, look at a nice W211, but check the VIN for balance shaft(gassers only) and SBC

I'm still pretty green to all the terms and parts. But I'm doing my best to learn. Could you tell me where to go in this forum to research those two things?

Are you serious-----Look at the forum menu bar and look for the word that begins with s. Alternatively use the well known search engine that begins with the letter G!!

W211 = follow on model: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w211-20/
balance shaft = issue with timing chain sprocket on engines through a certain production number https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...nce-shaft.html
SBC = electrically assisted brakes through MY 06, I believe.

i would suggest a 2001 or 2002 w210 over a 2003 - 2004 w211.

E 320
for a newcomer to MB, I also recommend the W210. It's a far less complicated car IMO. Find one with service records, as many as possible and expect to have immediate minor issues unless you get lucky.
