I have finally broken down and started to customize the wife's ride. Too much reading of the C-class threads, could not hold out any longer.

BOught it from Gaston at Auto Class in Miami. Bought a few CD changers from him in the past for the families other MB's, and thought I would try himm out for the Wheel. Excellent quality, and packaging. Will definitely buy from him again. Paid $599.00 including shipping. Very fair price from what I have searched, and also matched the leather perfectly in color.

Then wood and leather from Performance Products ($79) . . .
That steering wheel looks great, my car is the same color. I just have not been able to justify $600 to myself, yet.

install?
Maybe this is a stupid question, but how did you actually install the new steering wheel? Looks great! This forum is going to be the ruin of my wallet too.

Two T27 or T30 Torx bolts from behind the steering wheel. You should be able to feel the cutouts on the back of the wheel. Once you break those loos, the airbag falls into your hand. One two lead wire off the back of the airbag gets disconnected. Then two other wires for the horn ring get disconnected (Very obvious). You will need to make sure the iginition is off, and the key is not in the dash. Otherwise you will get a SRS problem, and who knows maybe even a deployment. As long as you have the key out of the hole, there is no worry. Extend the wheel fully out toward your seat to be able to fit the torx tools behind the wheel. After all of that there is one 10mmHex head bolt that holds the steering wheel on. I used a two foot breaker bar to get the joker loose (80nm of torque). After that, the wheel is essentially loose, and able to be taken off. What you need to be careful of are the two alignment marks on the wheel, and under the 10mm hex head bolt (You will understand when you get to this point). Make sure you count the teeth off of the flat lines on the sterring column shaft, so you know how to put the new wheel back on. After replacing the wheel, just reinstall in reverse, and you have newly mounted steering wheel. Took me about twenty minutes, since I had never done it before. Now, should only take about ten. Hope this explains it enough for you.

'01 E55 AMG - Brilliant Silver (very rare)/ Charcoal, K2a
Looks awesome !!!
My wife has a wood and leather wheel on her Lexus ... I just love the way the wood-wheel feels when I drive her car.
I'm going to call Auto Class to see if they have the Black Birdseye Maple version for my ride.
Great install. instructions too. If Auto Class has the wheel for my MB, I'm likely going to have my local MB-Dealer do the install (not becasue I'm not handy-enough to do the job ... just that there might be a liability issue if ever the vehicle is involved in an accident).
Love the Avatar BTW
