A/C Does not blow cold air.

Hey everyone,
So I apologize if this has been mentioned before but I have an A/C question. I bought my 2000 W210 Wagon year ago from a private seller and he said that the A/C Compressor needed to be replaced. My question is how do I verify this. I'd hate to have my mechanic replace the compressor and it still doesn't work. It blows air out but it is very warm. Does it make sense to have the Freon recharged first or is that a waste of money.
Thank you. I know summers here but I miss A/C sometimes.
Thank you for the help.

Hello, this website ( http://www.eclassbenz.com/2010/02/ho...-malfunctions/ ) should answer all your question regarding A/C needs. Just to give you a quick briefing your car has an A/C diagnostic system which will give you all A/C sensor readings I believe sensors 1-8 are relevant to your A/C function, also it will give you error codes if any. To decode these there is someone who volunteers his time to analyze your codes and report back what the problem is. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the help guys. I really appreciate that. I'll have my mechanic run it for codes and see what the problem is.
And yes the red light does come on.

Just do a check on the ac unit itself. It can tell you your pressures and levels. Or grab a bottle of recharge from Walmart for 20-30$ and you can see your pressure once you hook it up. Mine stopped blowing cold 2 weeks ago. I've been going a while in the Florida heat with it blowing hot air at me lol. Recharged it yesterday all my levels are back up and its ice cold. Jumping to the conclusion of bringing it in to get checked is the wrong idea . first check the free on levels

You've got to clear the EC fault first though. I just did this tonight using the information on the www.eclassbenz.com site. Super helpful and it walked me through reading the codes, clearing the faults and recharging the system. Take 10 minutes and do it. The cash you may save will thank you.

The easiest method for diagnosing a bad A/C Compressor is to simply listen. Firstly, start the engine and then turn on the A/C making sure that the red EC light is not on (This red light will mean that the compressor is shut off anyway by user default). Now when you turn on the engine, there should be a click and a different sound coming from the engine bay, it isn't quite easy to describe, but you can tell. Now if the EC light is off and you don't hear a click, and no change that means your compressor didn't click on and hence is probably bad.If you are having issues listening for it, be sure to ask your mechanic. He should be trained to know the sound of an A/C Compressor kicking on.

Now since your compressor may be at fault, it wouldn't make sense to waste your money installing new Freon just yet. You will need it later if your compressor is bad, but it is timing. Have your mechanic check first off to hear the sound and if you truly truly want to verify, use the on board system. The instructions of which were posted before me up there^
