Would you trade a 97 E420 for a 98 Range Rover 4.6 HSE?

Would you trade a 97 E420 for a 98 Range Rover 4.6 HSE?

Hi,

I currently have a 97 E420 with 100K mi. Black on Black.

I have a chance to do an even trade for a 98 Range Rover 4.6 HSE with 100K mi. Its Black on Black and very well maintained.

Do you think I should do it? Help me decide.

My E420 just sucks in the snow, so I can use the 4x4 and the extra cargo room.

Get decent all-season tires. I have no problems in the snow...

Should you trade for a Range ROver...abosolutely not. This would be one that you would regret. Like michakaveli said, get a good set of all season tires and you will be much better in the snow. Range Rovers don't wear as well as MB and are not as well designed and built. If you did trade, I would expect to get $6-8k with the Range Rover.

Stick with your E class

I do have decent all season tires, the Michelin Mxv4's. But I couldn't even make it out of my drive way when there is only like 2 inches of snow. Which is just sad.

Believe it or nt, when I type in the info for both cars at kbb.com, the trade in value of the Range Rover is actually higher than the E420.

If you want the Rover, Then trade, If not, don't. Only you can decide if you should do it. In my opinion, The MB is a much better vehicle, But then if you want something for room and the ability to go in the snow, There are better choices than the Rover

I had those same Michelins. They are horrible in the snow. Last winter I was thinking about getting rid of my car myself. This season I bought some new rims and "BETTER" all-seasons and the car is totally different. It's in the tires mang, tires....

'04 Silverado Z71 - sold all my Benzes and need another!
If you thought Mercedes was expensive to fix, then think again. I used to have a 98 HSE and it was a money pit. Although great looking SUV's, unless LR has spent more money in its engineering on its new body, the engines and electrical systems are crap. Everything from major electrical to transmission to the entire self-adjust suspension, you name it and I changed it. I must say that it is the best stock off-road handling SUV I've ever owned though.

I now have 141K miles on my 97 E420 and I couldn't ask for a better more reliable car. It realistically runs just as good as new. This is just my opinion and the opinion of a couple of friends of mine that own these Rovers. The decision needs to be yours, just way out all of your options before you make any hastily decisions, much luck to you...

I believe they were a little less when I had purchased them at the begining of the season. And the snow rating was at least 8.4.

Either way they are a night and day comparison to the Miche's I had on their before in every catergory

well, at 100K miles, you know the mercedes is good for another 100K or so...probably more. With 100K on the range rover, it's life is pretty much at it's end. Stick with the benz and in the long run, you'll be a more happy person.
