Just did tune-up now rough running

1998 w210 e320. Just did: plugs, cleaned MAF, air filter, oil change, fuel filter, radiator, hoses, belt (other stuff but don't believe related to running.

Now, when I start it, it will only runabout 2 seconds. I can keep it running with the throttle but its rough around the idle point. It almost acts like a vacuum leak would in the old CIS days.

Don't know. Ideas? and I don't have a OBD-2 scanner.

Depends how and what you used to clean the MAF. Assuming you chose the right sparks, everything else should be ok. I usually reset the CPU when I clean the MAF and let it sit overnight without battery -usually does the trick. Turn steering wheel lock to lock for the ABS warning if you do.

Used CRC MAF cleaner. Not for any reason but just as a SOP for me since I had it apart. Well, a buddy suggested that I disconnect it and sure enough, it ran. Reconnected and it stopped running. So there's one problem. Getting a new one.

As a test, I changed my MAF for one off a 2000 e320 that runs fine. I still have the same problem.

The other fixes should not cause such hiccups. Its either the MAF or the plugs in some way imo. I still say either a good clean of the MAF again using your MAF cleaner and disconnect the battery overnight or wait for a the new if you ordered and reset it via star or disconnect battery. I believe you can order the sensor on its own versus ordering the entire assembly to save some money- just have to have the right security bits.

I think with the other working maf, the ecu does not recognize the readings from the metering. Same for the newly cleaned one. I had this problem when I first bought my car and ended up replacing it with a reset and new life appeared. I never tested the old one but I do have it just in case of emergency.

Turned out to be a large vacuum line off the back of the intake manifold. Plastic piece that comes out of the manifold and into the line broke off. It is RTVed into place now but I need to buy/find a new one.

Glad you found the issue. Those plastic bits and connectors are brittle. I changed mine when I resealed my breather covers/valve gasket in my case. Bought mine from parts discounters . com with proper past number in hand. The bits are cheap and might as well change the others too.
