Aftermarket exhaust for better sound....

Now that I'm changing wheels, tires and shocks I think I'd like a better sounding exhaust. i know it won't add anything in performance, but I'd like my car to at least sound fast.....without sounding ridiculous.

Do any of you have any experience with Eisenman or Remus? Or any other brands? What is the cost like and what about the sound? Where is a good online place to buy? Easy to get installed? etc..

It will improve performance and sound better.

Some people leave out the mid-muffler for added sound.

Yep, take out the resonator and you'll have a lot more sound and responsiveness...probably the cheapest performance mod you'll do....

Yep, a deeper, louder rumble and you will get more pick up speed/response too.

E-Klasse, I like that Fox muffler. How did you fit a dual connecting pipe Fox muffler and mid muffler to a straight six engine with single pipe connectors?

My baby V6 has dual connectors before the resonator (removed), so I assume a bigger 6 would be the same:

That is the point I am making/asking. That car is not a V6? It is I6 motor for 1996- 1997 E320 in US. A 'straight' 6 would not have dual pipes for a single sided engine exhaust system?

if that resonator is removed then doesn't that shorten the whole assembly? do you have to have a tailpipe welded on to complete the full length of the exhaust? as you can see i don't know much about mufflers.
if this isn't a big deal i want to go ahead and get it done when my shocks are installed since i'm going to a muffler shop for the shock installation anyway.

See the black straight pipe on the left? That's what replaced the resonator or mid-muffler (never knew what the heck it was) - the straight pipe needs to be welded on......

When you remove the mid muffler you replace it with a set of customer fit pipes from a muffler shop.

Does anyone have any idea how loud my E430 would be if I removed the silencer(mid muffler) and installed an aftermarket muffler such as the Kleemann? I want my car to have an aggressive and throaty sound but not be obnoxious or illegal.

My inline 6 has 2 cats and 2 pipes going the mid-muffler.

Its not loud enough for my taste but probably enough for most people - sporty, yet maintains the luxury car feel. no where near the extent of the porsche or ferrari set up. The engine definitely sounds more alive and convey the power within. the beauty is, there is no difference in sound from stock when idle i.e. dead quiet. it only growls when u step on it. hope this helps.

Lightbulb Give Remus a look

They have real nice quality exhausts, deeper at low RPM's not intrusive.Sounds great at hi revs, and I did notice response and mileage boost.

Would anybody happen to have a sounds clip of an aftermarket exhaust in an E320? I fear that it would sound more like a ricey import with the 6 cylinder. Can someone change my opinion?

Regards,

Eric

Man, that is an unusual setup for a 96 E320, even the 1997 E420 V8 only had 1 connecting pipe into the rear muffler.

Where to get Fox Sport Mufflers?:

I hear the AMG is even more quiet than the stock exhaust, others slightly more but you probably won't even hear the difference
