Anybody got tinted windows?

Anybody have tinted windows, and get scratched from the rubber? How do you fix that? I have to get my window re-tinted now. I've had them tinted for a month now and just today I get a scratch straight down the middle. Did i miss a step in getting these done?

You need to line the inner window seals with felt or moleskin to avoid the tint scratching.

I've had mine for over a year and just recently started to get some really faint scratching, go figure. It's not enough to be replaced yet but I am going to get the felt installed if it gets any worse...

Where did you get the felt from? And how did you secure it to the factory rubber strips?

Do you know if they had to remove the door panel or were they able to simply slip it in?

The moleskin has a self adhesive on one side so it sticks to the seal.

You need to lossen the door panel and remove a screw or two in order to slide the seals out.

No biggie.

Moleskin is a soft, felt like material that has a self adhesive backing. CR Lawrence makes moleskin and it is avaialbe in 100 foot rolls in various widths. The moleskin is applied to the inner window guides/scrappers so that the felt rubs up against the tint rather than the hard rubber guide/scrapper.

The hard rubber guide/scrapper is what is scratching your tint.

Thanks for the info. I'm having my car done tomorrow. Lets see what they come up with. I like the moleskin idea.

How can I get some mole skin? I called the company but they
only sell to dealers and glass companies, plus I don't need 100 feet of the stuff. Any suggestions? I just need enough to do my C43 ( well maybe a little extra if I screw up )

i just go my windows done over and I got new scrapers. They didn't help, I have another one scratched again. That moleskin is hard to find. Maybe if someone in the Bay Area has a shop that installs it, I'll re-do my glass again. In the meantime, I give up wasting time and money doing thwese windows over and over. if anybody know a tint shop in the Bay Area that will install moleskin for me, pleasse let me know. I'm ready to do it now.

I had mine done you need to have the inner rubber piece sanded down that will keep them from scratching.

When i did my tint, the guys at huber optik only offered their five year warranty only if i cahnged the rubber linings to the felt or suede rubber lining. They actually manufacture the linings to replace the OEM ones. Costs about US 75 for all fours. No scratches so far, and I can claim warranty if there's any from then on.
