Replacing spring pads: True or False!!!!

HELP!

When replacing the REAR spring pads on a 210 E-class suspension, do you have to loosen and drop the rear sub-frame (carrier), can you use a spring compressor, or is there a better method? My dealer says the sub-frame has to be dropped. They didn't drop the sub-frame when they installed the springs. What gives?

Someone PLEASE provide me with some info. quickly. Car goes to dealer tomorrow (Thursday). THANKS!

This is a moot point isn't it?!? You're changing the sway bars as well and definitely they have to drop the rear sub frame to get the back bar in and out.

(assuming that the dealer is going to install the H&R for you)

The guy at Tire Rack said you could install the rear bar without dropping the subframe. He said you can "fish" it through. I don't know.....that is why I need more info. from you guys.

I don't know if our rear ends are the same but all I had to do was remove the control arm slowly with a jack, pull the spring out, replace it and then raise the control arm back up with the jack for bolting. Check out the pics...(excuse the dirt please as I did this during winter and after all the rain we had, hehe)

Mike,
I would say you need to use 2 jacks to do the spring drop like what jimmy posted. I am planning to do that either today or this weekend it should be much easier compared to do the front springs.

You only need to use 1 jack and a pair of jack-stands. The rear will be a lot easier than the front and yes, those are #2 pads...

Mikey,

Jimmy is right. You don't need to drop the rear sub-frame to do only the rear springs and shocks.

What I was refering to was that since you are going to change out the sway bar, they will have to drop the sub-frame to do this job. I would question Tire Rack on this. I have spoken to two different shops and the dealer in my area and they all say to drop the rear frame. I took a look the last time I changed my tires and there would be a lot of 'fishing' going on to get that rear bar out, nevermind 'fishing' in the new thicker bar. I hope the Tire Rack rep wasn't Luke as he normally knows better than that.
