4Matic Transmission Mount Questions

Hello all, I have a 02' E430 4Matic and was wanting to replace the transmission mount. I have been able to look at information on replacing it for RWD cars but there is no information about the 4Matic versions. I was just hoping anybody with experience on replacing the 4Matic transmission mounts could describe the differences, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

for starters it uses a different mount.

I am fairly certain it is as simple as supporting the tranny/transfer case with a jack and then taking crossmember off. might be easier than we think.

i have wanted to replace mine, but dont feel like spending 100+ bucks without confirming mine is bad

Thank you for the photo!!!! So it seems like the transmission has 3 supports (right, left, and center) from the photo then. Were you able to take the unit as a whole?

to be honest, I have not done this yet on my w210. However when I did it on my w211, as soon as the crossmember dropped the mount came with it. I would encourage using an electric impact to get em out, could take long with a ratchet. obviously support the tranny somewhere before you loosen things , jack preferably.

I have not had a chance to get under car to inspect. If you get around to it before I do, def let the thread know so I can reference it when have to do this job. Parts from what I remember were about 100-120 MB genuine on both ebay and dealership. was too much for me to just buy it without checking if my mount is bad.

I will double, and you should too, to check if this part applies to sedans like yours just to be safe

Well, I get light vibration during idle. Its not a large amount like engine knock, just enough where the car jiggles a bit. When I change it into reverse, the car shakes a little worse, same with drive sometimes. When put into neutral the car is stable. Sometimes, after a good amount of driving, the shaking will pretty much go away when in park. Generally, the car shakes during idle and changing gears. Since the cars at 136K miles I thought I was gonna do the motor mounts and the transmission mount.

The 4matic uses a round mount, not sure why. Base model uses squar $12 mount. My old one was pretty stretchy, new one nice n tight. I was tracking down a clunk when 2-1 downshift, seemed to clear it up.

Thats very good to know Loden, I do sometimes have a clunk when I downshift, especially in manual mode. Maybe I might be able to knock two birds out with one stone.... Sadly i can only find OEM tranny mounts for 4Matic verions for $130..... If you have a link for a good OE manufactorer please put it in!

call me crazy but the transmission was never designed to be "downshifted"...hear me out.... it says that you choose the number, 1,2,3 and 4, and each gear still does it manual shifting by itself (such as if you are in 3, it still runs 1,2, and then locks out in 3rd). If you check your manual its in there. so its more like selecting a driving mode that you leave it in that mode instead of controlling gears 1,2,3,4 and backwards. notice how it still shifts when you specify it should be in 4 or 3?

I dont know about that man, I looked up the 722.6 transmission and after 2001, they implemented sppedshift, where the transmissions included a manual mode as well as active downshifting. So if they implemented a manual mode, I would think that the transmission was built to be able to downshift manually.

Alright, from all of this it seems like mercedes is the only seller of a 4Matic transmission mount and by taking the entire crossmember off the mount comes with it. Thank you all!
